Looking for feedback on CW Black Gold. What does it trade for now and what completed trades have you seen for this beer. Thanks in advance.
To add in some more information: I've seen others trade theirs 1:1 for Rare, BCBVS, DDG. Although to my knowledge, in some (not all) of these trades, the Black Gold side threw in some shelf NG to help make up $4$.
I did a trade recently that involved black gold and PvW Black Magic at a 1:1 ratio. Also offered to add on my end, but the trade partner only wanted the single bottle. Both traders were pretty happy with the trade!
I gave mine up recently in a bundle trade for a Cake set. Got the bottle when it was first released with a DDG
How would '13 Black Gold (12 oz bottle, fourteen fourteen base) and '14 Black Gold (22 oz bottle, 16 base) compare in trade value? I assume '13 would trade higher than '14, right? I'm trying to determine what it would take to land a '13 Black Gold to complete a CW barrel aged tasting. Any input is appreciated as I haven't seen many completed trades.
That seems like a given. FWIW, I think the only FT I've seen offering Black Gold b1 in months was ISO of a MexiCake set (with a plus on the BG side).
Jesus are these Black Golds really trading that high? I thought it was kind of awful when I had it a couple weeks ago. Thats crazy.
Are you talking about Central Waters' Black Gold, or one of the other similarly-named beers? The times I've had CW's BG it was amazing (though b1 and b2 are pretty clearly different from one another), and the reviews seem to agree.
I'm talking about Central Waters Black Gold that just came out in the 22oz bottles. The 5 people besides me that had it at our tasting all thought it was ok but had a weird taste on the back end. Almost metallic. Either way I would not trade 1 12oz bottle of BCBS for a bomber. Just my opinion.
To each their own. I just wish they made more of it. Sixteen is a great beer, but to me BG b2 was like CW16 with an extra helping of (extraordinarily smooth) bourbon, which for a bourbon fan like myself takes it to another level.
I agree with this assessment. Sixteen was drinking quite mellow out of the gates, but unsurprisingly, Black Gold had significantly more bourbon presence especially in the nose. It's not a giant upgrade over Sixteen by any means, but that's not saying much since Sixteen is a great BA stout. I'm surprised to hear that the bottle Phish had was not up to par; we certainly did not get any metallic flavours. Its hard to know if that's an isolated bottle or not because I've only tried it out of one bottle myself.
The bottle I opened this weekend was near perfection in terms of BA Stouts, in my opinion... I would have really hard time letting go of the bottle I have. Add in the fact that it was only $16 and even if I were going to trade it I would have to be a complete a-hole about it because I know of no other beer I would enjoy the same as or more that is anywhere near that value.
