I hope this is the right place to post this. I couldn't find a general Cycle thread. Is it just me or does Cycle not have a great barrel program. It seems that most of the barrel aged stuff doesn't have much barrel. How long do they typically age their beer? Is today's Rye going to be any good? Or just another barrel let down?

What BA brews have you had from them? I've been drinking their BA stuff for quite a few years. Some of it leans barrel heavy, some barrel weak, and some really balanced. Depends on which beers you are discussing IMO.

It is most certainly just you.

The Red and Yellow Trademark Dispute and Rare DOS (wasn't too bad). Just didnt seem like there was a lot of barrel in the trademark dispute series. And I see that in a lot of reviews as well. But its fair to say that it depends on the beer. Does anyone think that the Rye Whiskey Wednesday for today is going to have much barrel?

I heard they produced like 5000 bottles this year.

Don't think its just me. Quoted from BA reviews of the &+ trademark dispute:

"Everything from boldness of flavor to barrel character, just isn't up to par with what I previously expected from Cycle."

Doug is trying to lighten them up since as a whole the craft beer community has far too many lines, and is getting overwhelmingly fatter.

Guy from Ohio creates thread about a Florida brewery complaining, after having listed 2 beers hes had from them. I think Cycles barrel aging program is awesome, of course no brewery is going to turn out amazing beers every time but at the rate the turn out BA beers I think their game is on point!

Generally a touch thinner, but they still got it going on in terms of flavor and barrel character. Buddy Shots just released was very good, for instance...

Isn't this forum a place for people to share their opinions and ask questions? You Florida guys are really touchy about your overpriced adjunct beers. If anyone gets to try the Rye Whiskey Wednesday bottle, I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks all.

I am also curious if anyone has any idea how long Cycle typically ages their stuff?

This is the most troll I have seen in a while. Funny that it doesn't taste as good when they make more of it.........

Thanks Captain Obvious!! Yes, I am a guy from Ohio that has not had a chance to try as many Cycle beers as some of the other Florida folks. Imagine that!! Hence why I started this thread and ask the questions. I agree that no brewery can turn out amazing beer every time. So I didn't mean to overgeneralize. I just see a lot of reviews that seem to suggest that Cycle may not be as much on their game as they used to be. Of course, I understand that reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt. Hence, the reason why I am posting here.

Still waiting on someone to answer this question instead of just listening to Florida folks being defensive:
"How long do they typically age their beer?"

Don't post a thread and state MOST of their BA beers don't have much barrel when you've only had 2.

I can say the bottle I had from the release on sunday- CB- didn't have any barrel in it.... boy was I upset!

    Point well taken.

I did say "it seems".... And what I meant by that (to be explicit) is:

It seems from my recent experience and from recent reviews on the last trademark dispute release that most of the barrel aged stuff doesn't have much barrel. Sorry if I offended anyone. This was really more of an inquiry from people who are on the pulse of what's going on with Cycle. It was not meant to be an attack.

Im a local and a long time Cycle patron, and I didn't take this as a troll at all. I think most locals who regularly get bottles can agree that the majority of Cycle's BA portfolio ranges from good to excellent, but I think most locals can also agree there's been a couple instances of "just ok" brews in there. I think Cycle's BA program has such a stellar reputation behind it that you just expect stellar all the time. As locals, we look past this and know the next one will be awesome and we will be there at 8am to get it.

Now I completely agree it isn't fair to judge Cycle's vast BA program based on two beers, BUT if you aren't local and ended up getting to try two cycle stouts that you expect to just blow you out of the water based on brand name alone and they let you down, because they weren't Cycle's best, I understand asking the question, and I don't think he was asking in a trolling way.

It's like hearing the word Porsche and expecting a 991 R, but in reality you get a Boxster.

Typically most breweries drink samples during aging and the beer is ready when it tastes where they want it. There can probably be some common average times if they crunch the data but the beer is done when it is done.

Edit: Also could be a blend of ages.

I was also looking at the some of the Monday and Tuesday 2017 reviews on untappd and I saw back-to-back reviews like the following for Tuesday 2017:
"Tons of chocolate, not much barrel, very good"
"Willy Wonka river status, little barrel"

Maybe the chocolate is just so overwhelming that you cant taste the barrel at all? I am curious whether anyone thinks that a big chocolate adjunct stout is worth $30? I always justify the higher costs because I am getting a lot of barrel (the time spent in the barrel justifies the cost). Has anyone had the Tuesday 2017? With so many chocolate adjunct stouts out there, does anyone think its worth the $30 price tag?

Yes. Had it last night. Definitely lots of chocolate but also plenty of barrel. People saying there isn't any barrel should drink any of these beside a non-ba stout (as I did yesterday). For me I thought the beer was balanced perfectly. And yes, I think the beer is worth $30.
