Many of the folks who go to the Cycle releases don't keep their whole allotment, many of those folks are getting bottles for other local friends who can't make it. Not everyone hoards or trades away cases of beer, lots of folks pick up bottles for their friends.

    Nope.

It was a pretty chill environment so I really didn't appreciate the doofus going table to table asking if he could buy the balance of anyone's allotment because he had "a friend" who wanted one. Jesus. The competitive-trading set is really taking a lot of the fun outta this.

When I go to bottle releases around here, I see a TON of familiar faces. It's mostly folks I run into regularly at breweries across the Tampa Bay area, shooting the shit and enjoying what's on tap. Good people. But there also are a bunch of faces I see at ONLY at bottle releases. They get their allotment, take their box and split. But hey, I'm sure they're just hooking up "a friend" or their "beer network."

Again, that's going to happen at any release, no matter what the limits.

So if a person enjoys beer enough to drag themselves to different beer releases but maybe doesn't also have time to hit the bar after work every day, it's safe to assume they're not "good people"? Got it. I sure love the judginess that always seems to accompany people's assessments of the life choices of others when it comes to beer.

I'm ultimately a live-and-let-live guy. What rankles me is that the collective we here on this site throw "beer community" and "advocacy" around a lot. I fail to see where hoarding or predatory trading embodies either of those notions.

But I know that those who do those things fail to see why anyone would think it's wrong. Human nature.

Are these still on tap? I thought I saw they were still on as of yesterday.

I hear you that's there is some sucky behavior out there. I just wouldn't make the mistake of assuming someone who shows up at bottle releases but not the Tampa bar scene falls in that category. For example, I have two kids and a pretty serious job and live in Sarasota. While I rarely go to releases or to bars in Tampa, you'd be more likely to see me at the former rather than the latter. And I personally don't think I suck. YMMV

Yes. Still on tap. They are also going to have some berliner from Orange Belt Brewing (brewed at Peg's) rotating today. Currently it is Blueberry Coconut.

. This! I'll drop by for a beer if I'm in the neighborhood but the bottle releases are too crazy for me. The only down side to this is that I used to use the bottle releases as an excuse to go and have a couple great brews!

i dunno man... you're ruining this scene by not driving up there 2-3 times a week to drink at the brewery.

These days even Doug's employees don't know...or they finally aren't talking.

I expect new BA releases every other month as he continues to ramp up production...pretty sure I read somewhere that he wants to have the biggest barrel aging program in the southeast. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time today!
