I agree, my friend. I wasn't suggesting anyone thinks DBH is shit just because it's a blend. I was sarcastically pointing out how the difference between something being "double barrel aged" and "blend of beers aged in two barrels" is really meaningless. I appreciate the desire for universally-accepted nomenclature--and that is a topic for another thread--but frankly, the end result is all that really matters.

Evil Twin states on their website that 'Double Barrel' Jesus is blended so I assume it was aged half and half not 100% in both barrels. I am not aware of any beer that is aged in series. I assume that the price for a cycle beer aged using this method would be too expensive as you would need twice the amount of barrels.

From Side Project's twitter: 2 yrs in bourbon barrels, now on to port barrels for finishing. Double Barrel Derivation...

Wasn't Cigar City the first of those three to come out? If I hear double barrel I just assume it is blend of a beer from two different spirit barrels.

Edit: Think I am right and wrong. Cigar City first released Double Barrel Zhukov(a blend) quite a while ago. DB Hunahpus was more recent. I was thinking of the Zhukov not Hunahpus as being the first of the ones listed above.

lmfao... i think to avoid any confusion, beer aged in one barrel and then another should be called sequential barrel. or series barrel. blends could be called parallel barrels. or two barrels one cup..err.... bottle.

LOL at the Double Barrel semantics. If more than one barrel is involved in blending or sequential barreling, the beer is considered at least a Double Barrel, if not Triple or Quadruple.

All I see is every other brewery not even close to the level of Cycle's barrel-aging program, with production and releases. Along with CCB being the largest producer of 650ml format on a crackhead's bottling schedule; like every other week or two bottles every month, sometimes three or four.

I wouldn't be surprised by a midnight release by either of the two companies in the upcoming months or years. Have we been to the BAMC thread? Hilariously waiting for their release for no real reason whatsoever despite talks of "space". It takes Cycle all of 200 sq ft to do theirs. Westbrook's beer is pretty good but their brewery in standard to Cycle or CCB is a JOKE. By the time BAMC releases, I will of had in my hand, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Nooner 7, Nooner 8, Nooner 9, Nooner 10, Pallet 1, Pallet 2, Pallet 3, Pallet 4, DCB DOS and Rare DOS, which all, almost trade equally 1:1 for those Westbrook bad boys.

I just can't play that South Carolina, Iowa or Missouri game. Derivation is a pretty bottle joke on a super limited bottle count that will not help them get bigger if SP and all the others don't pump it up. Look at the trade boards, we know whose doing it right.

i don't see the need to disparage other breweries. i think tampa/st. pete stands just fine on it's own.

I'm scaling to comparison with other breweries, not saying they are valued less. Cycle is more of a trend-setter (BA stouts and IPAs) and a lot of other breweries are following an original format, which is much slower, it seems.

    IM A NICE GUY!

Wish I didn't live four hours away from Cycle, seems like nothing but rave, world class reviews for almost everything they put out. One of these days I will make that trip down there. Until then I just hope Ancient City or Aardwolf start putting out world class stuff all the time :grinning:
