Any strong recommendations of where to eat around in the Hackettstown area? Looking to do the trifecta there today.

Unfortunately I didn't eat when I made my trip a few weeks ago but I'm curious to see your take on the three places. Have fun!

For food Id say your best bets are Taphouse grille to keep it beer related or mamas cafe for some good Italian food, just my $.02 for something relatively close.

Taphouse is probably your best bet. If you're feeling like a glutton, try Churrascaria Paladar, which is a Brazilian rodizio style restaurant. I've only had one meal there, but it was pretty good.

Was there yesterday. Had the classic flight. I wouldn't say anything was spectacular but all the beers were really solid. I had three people recommend I go down the street to Marleys for wings (over 100 sauces!) but they were somehow out of both regular and bonesless wings. Maybe you'll have better luck today haha. It's about a 2-3 block walk and across the street from Man Skirt.

So, I went there today and the best and shortest way I can describe Czig Meister is "They're playing it safe". The Seasonal: IPA was good, but other than that and the Falconer, without going too much in depth, they are all accurate representations of the styles.

@chrisgeb Not sure what the hell happened that they'd NOT have wings.. but man, you missed some good wings. Recommendation if you go to Marley's, get the Bang Bang Wings.

So we did all three yesterday and I'll say this, we did take a growler of Barclay Perkins from Man Skirt Brewing - she loved the place, Joe, and this brown ale so much, we brought some home.

As far as the Double IPA from Man Skirt, I think it's the hop profile. I don't think I've ever had a beer that featured the Progress hop like that, but I know what you mean.

Personally, I think the IPA is there to have an IPA there, it's not bad, but when he talks about all of his beers, you can gauge the level of excitement about each one versus the Imperial Progress. Coming to Man Skirt was like going to Little Dog in Neptune. I want to go back for the owner, the crowd, and the non-IPA beers.

I visited Czig Meister for the first time today. I thought the layout was great and I enjoyed talking with the staff. I thought the beers I sampled were okay but not spectacular. It's certainly not Kane (yet, at least). But I think they're off to a good start. I didn't have the benefit of visiting Kane or Carton when they first opened. I would say the beer at Czig Meister is comparable to that brewed at Twin Elephant. I'll definitely go back, hopefully soon!

For a relatively young brewery, they sure are pumping out a hefty number of IPA variants come Saturday; perhaps a good opportunity to see how well they take on one subject, and the categories within that subject

We are taking over our own taps for HopFest on Saturday, August 20th!

Better get here early, and be prepared to stay late.

    What to expect:
Double Dry-Hopped Variants of India Pale Ales & American Pale Ales
    Single-Hopped IPAs
IPAs with Fruit, Spices, & Other Infusions
Hoppy Variations on Classic American Beer Styles

For HopFest, we will be taking over our 16-tower tap system. At any given moment, you will have 16 delightfully hoppy creations to choose from.
    ...
But it wouldn't be a trip to Czig Meister Brewery if there wasn't more beer than meets the eye... throughout the day, some of these small-batch varieties will kick, and a brand new brew will be released!

Would you expect anything less from the Czig Meister?

At Czig Meister the day after their Hopfest. Tons of hoppy (duh) beers on tap. My second visit here and I'm definitely enjoying this place. The beer is good and the place itself is very cool for hanging out. Nice staff too!

I think in a few months, this place will be absolutely dialed in and knocking it out consistently.

Very much agree with you. Went to Czig a few weeks ago and I also agree with another stated sentiment that they were "playing it safe."

On a side note, I went to Man Skirt during the same visit and thought their porter was the standout beer of the day.

everyone has pretty much been spot on in saying they are playing it safe and they should be doing very well soon.

I'd prefer they play it safe in the beginning with some decent beers, then go crazy with some other beers and fail miserably. Start out consistent and move forward

And clearly "playing it safe" isn't a bad thing. People were walking out consistently with growler fills when I was there, so it's working. Nothing wrong with that.

*Czig Meister is an easy walk from the train station; sadly, no NJTransit Trains to Hackettstown on weekends.
