I will be interning in D.C. starting next week and would appreciate any good suggestions on bottle shops and bars that have a good beer selection relatively close to the capitol. Cheers!

Search Function is my favorite in terms of both bars and bottle shops.

That's funny. I guess it's totally unreasonable to ask people's opinions who know the area much better than I do.

No dude, he's telling you to just search for previous threads on this because it's asked all the time. Check this thread out for some good recommendations.

Definitely visit Church Key. Big fan of Pizza Paradiso too (pizza and beer are great).

Try total wine, arrowine, lost dog, and norm's in northern va. Worth the trek.

One of the best values I know of, in terms of price and selection, is Ironhorse on 7th and E St NW. Their happy hour is always $2 off drafts, and if you get there any time before 6-630 it is very easy to find a place to sit.

if you're working on the Hill, Schneiders is probably your best bottle shop option. Not the biggest selection, but they have good variety and decent prices.

The P St. Whole Foods is probably the best bottle shop that's actually in DC.

If you don't go to Jack Rose Dining Saloon you are making a huge mistake.

They have the most meticulously kept draft system in the world, you will have the cleanest beer ever. I know the beverage director and they clean lines after every 3 kegs.

They also boast the biggest whiskey selection in the western hemisphere.

Avoid Iron Horse in DC unless you are paying cash. They will put a $100 additional charge on your credit card for several days. They claim it is a "hold" but it is a scam. RFD in Chinatown has a great selection but isn't much to look at.

by definition; that is a hold.

anyway; molly malones on 8th has a pretty good selection of rotating drafts. tunnicliffs on 7th across from eastern market still has BCBBW/BCBS in bottles.

I understand that is a hold. $100 is a bit high for a hold.

City Tap House in Penn Quarter is a great mixture of good food and excellent beer selection.
