D.C. Shelf Beer

    Got a buddy visiting D.C. over the next week. Wants to know what beers are currently on shelf worth picking up. Mind you, we both live in NJ, thus have NJ distribution. Thanks for all the help!

    There should be OTWOA cans at the DC Brau brewery if you can get there on Saturday.

    Otherwise, Penn Quarter Porter is the best of their shelf stuff. Corruption and Public are ok. Citizen is not.

    Devils Backbone 8 point IPA is easy to find and very good. Port City's Optimal Wit always wins awards.

    IMO, the best DC brews are growlers only--Right Proper, Atlas, 3 Stars

    If you are shelf hunting, I'd look to grab some Williamsburg Aleworks, Bells, Boulevard, and Duck-Rabbit.

    Probably should check out some Hardywood Sidamo/Bourbon Sidamo (should be some still floating around) and Raspberry Stout.

    Would love to see some Hardywood, sours/saisons, barleywines, stouts, really just anything I cant get my hands on in NJ. No interested in porters, brown ales, fllanders red.

    Its probably hard for most of us to know what you can't get in NJ, but DC has some pretty awesome beer stores, just look around and I don't think you will be disappointed. There are a number of recent threads in this forum giving recommendations for bottle shops.

    Total Wine in Chantilly still had the Hardywood Bourbon Barleywine when I was there a week ago.

    I've never seen Hardywood items in stores in DC, however, they area available in VA stores such as Total Wine McClean

    Going to revive this thread. I'm visiting DC next week and I'm hoping to get some Bells and Great Lakes beers. Will I find them at stores like Connecticut Ave and Chevy Chase? Also, what is the going rate for Great Lakes sixers, meaning how marked up are they?
