Wow, those bring back memories. My parents (or grandparents) had a set of frosted glass tumblers with the same gold leaf pattern.

Criminy -- I know someone who had just such an opener... now I can't recall who it was!

I take most of my pictures with a Canon Elph 170 IS. It's a lot less hassle than using my phone imho. I just pop out the SD card, stick it in my laptop and upload it.

It also has another opener on the bottom in the middle, it’s crimped too looks like for screw off csps. Kinda cool but I rarely use it.

Thanks for that! I’ve been meaning to type it into Google translate but just haven’t gotten around to it.

I'm guessing that you could use it to loosen up corks, though I've never tried it.

It’s so shallow and it’s crimped, don’t know. You already have an opener at the tail, it’s a question for the ages, wtf is that for?

Just in case anyone is wondering what @nc41 is referring to:

That'd date it circa mid/late-1960s. I suppose if those ridges match up to the standard number of flutes on a crown cap, that'd confirm it.

The "opener" topic drift was about "trademarked openers given out by breweries" - but that item doesn't appear to have a brewery logo that I see?

It duplicates the tail, you can pop off twist off caps with that. I don’t remember twist off caps being around in late 60s. But it would make sense though,

Lucky Lager (then still a large seller from a 2m bbl. brewing co. with 4 west coast breweries) was one of the earliest adopters of the "twist off crown" type of cap and they were nice enough to date their ad. They went by various names - "Twist-Off Cap" "Twist-Top" "Twistop" "Spin-Pop", etc.

(Other companies went with the aluminum so-called "Roll-on " type of "screw off/screw on" caps, below right).

Like many other beer can or bottle innovations, it took a few years for the public to accept - or reject - them, and for other brewers to adopt it. Other brands in the 1967-69 period included Piels, Dubois Budweiser, Stroh, Pearl, C. Schmidt, etc.

There’s no markings on it so the manufacturer is unknown, but knowing when we moved and my dad had the custom bar built I’d say 1970 at least. Knowing my parents they bought it at JC Penny. My daughter has the bar, it was custom built in Maine out of Black Pine. I just don’t have the room here for that, Townhouse living means scaling back on some things.[/QUOTE]

Slightly OT, but back around '72 or so, I went to a friend's Bachelor party at a "gentlemen's" bar in Manhattan. Mid-town somewhere, I'm guessing, but anyway, the hostesses that asked you to buy them drinks there ordered drinks that came in shot glasses that were so solid, you could barely fit a roofing nail in them. Like an eyedropper of liquor, if that !
