Hey everyone, I have the opportunity to explore a bit this Sunday (5/1) in the Dallas/Plano area. I'd love to visit a good brewery/bar or two but I'm not familiar with the Dallas brew scene at all. I'm open to most styles but love sours/IPAs and big stouts/porters (in that order) so if you can point me somewhere in specific that would be great. Would not mind picking up a bottle or two of locals so taking advice for bottle shops as well. Appreciate the guidance!
If you don't want to go downtown you can hit up Lakewood and Oak Highlands over in Garland, they are a stones throw away from each other and both were pretty solid. And in the Plano area I have found that Specs on Coit Road has a pretty good selection of Dallas breweries. http://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/nine-of-north-texas-best-stores-for-craft-beer-7030356. Two of the top nine stores they have are in the plano area and one does mix/six. Have fun
Lone Star Beverages in Carrollton (bottle shop) and Lone Star Taps and Caps (50 mostly local beers on tap) are close to the North Dallas/Plano areas. The staff at both locations are extremely helpful.
Love both of these places. @outsidah - Lakewood will definitely help you get your fill on big stouts... if you're lucky, they'll have BBT '15 on draft: Oak Highlands Brewery is also fantastic. Excellent Lager and Kolsch. They've got a solid Black Saison (Chump Change). Once again, if you're lucky you may find a barrel-aged version of this @ the brewery. They also have some small batch beers that rotate frequently. Lastly, there are two great bottle shops in the this area: First is Goodfriend Package (not to be confused with Goodfriend Beer Garden across the street). You'll find an excellent selection of beers here, including tons of local beer. If you like IPAs, don't miss Dankosaurus from Cedar Creek... this and Yellow Rose are my two favorite IPAs in TX. Second is Lakeview Liquor. This place looks sketchy as hell! But they've got an incredible selection of beer. Go to the back of the store to find great bottles including Jester King 750s.
Thank you all for taking the time. Love this community! It looks like everything is open Sunday except for Oak Highlands and Lakeview Liquor. I'll make the most out of the time I have thanks to you all
SSSSHHHHHHH!!! This is how they were cleaned out of their aging wine noirs about a year ago. Someone told some out-of-towner and said out-of-towner went in and bought the remaining case
