I’ll be in Dallas for just a day in December. We’re staying right at DFW Airport but will have a car. Looking for suggestions on breweries to visit as well as restaurants with solid tap lists. Willing to drive to where we need to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you'll be right by the airport: If you're near 183 (South entrance) then Turning Point is the closest brewery. They focus on NEIPAs but also supposedly make good stouts and maybe will have a lager (I haven't been in a long time). If you're near the North entrance near Grapevine then you'll be closest to Hop & Sting or Grapevine Craft Brewery, same place. I haven't tried anything from them after they merged but I liked GCB's brown ale and pale ale. Near 183 is Bru City. I haven't been there since they changed beer managers but they are a 60 tap growler bar in a gas station with a couple of food places in there. Ron's Corner Tavern in Bedford is good but small and there may be some new craft beer restaurants in town. I've never heard of anything good in Irving east of the airport and there are other places that I'm not very familiar with in Grapevine. If you want to drive farther then there are other options. Are there specific styles of beer you are more interested in?
Thanks for the help! We’re willing to drive anywhere we need to. We land at 8am and leave the next morning. I drink just about anything, my girlfriend is really only into sours and non barrel aged stouts.
As was mentioned, Collective Brewing focuses on sour beers. A lot of people talk very highly of them. I've liked one of their beers at least. Many other places have sour beers off and on. But I don't know which ones you recommend. Stouts... Lakewood Temptress has been the most popular. It's an Imperial Milk Stout with lots of variations but at least the basic isn't barrel aged. I only really hear people talking about the Barrel Aged stouts though.
I second the recommendation for Turning Point. It’s location isn’t great. It’s basically in a strip mall, but they make some great NEIPAs. I’ve been drinking quite a few beers from Tupps Brewery in McKinney. I’m a big fan of their RIS Full Grown Man, and they have multiple variants of it. They also have an excellent DDH series.
Lakewood sounds like your best bet. That puts you near Oak Highlands Brewing and Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery. Headed back west you could hit White Rock Ale House, On Rotation and come see me at Braindead. Then there are several more just west of downtown!
