Hi all! Heading in to Dallas for work first weekend of March and looking for good breweries (with potential take home options, growlers/cans), bars and/or restaurants that are doing well in the ipa game. I'm based out of New York and local to OH. I've had spindletap beers (Juiceton, Houston Haze, etc..) and loved them. I've heard a lot of good things about Pinthouse Pizza, which I know is also a pretty far drive. So, are there popular craft beer bars in Dallas that provide beers from those breweries on draft? (if they even distro kegs) Or other options similar to those beers in Dallas? you Alpreciate any feedback! Cheers!
I don't know but I would hit up specific breweries of interest directly on Instagram or other social media and ask about distribution in the Dallas area. If you like NEIPA you might add Ingenious, B52 and Great Heights breweries. All Houston area that have NEIPA and also milkshake (and west coast, etc) style beers. I'm no expert, but am looking to try myself.
You won't find any of these breweries in Dallas. Instead, keep an eye out for Martin House, Lakewood Brewing, Community, and Collective Brewing Project. Those are all local to the Dallas area.
Check out Malai Kitchen's social media when here to see if they have one of their Thai1On Rotators on draft. Short of that, you'll be disappointed if the NEIPA is your go-to style. Some excellent beers here, but DFW breweries have not embraced the haze.
If you have Meddlesome Moth on your places to hit, which if it isn't it should be, then you can possible try ***** Wagon from Brash in Houston. I think this is probably the best DIPA in Texas. They have it on tap now, not sure if it will last
Dallas. Texas's craft brewery desert. Meddlesome Moth is your best bet for anything good brewed in the region (Austin, Houston, LA, OK). The local breweries are very lackluster.
It's funny hearing that it is the craft beer desert when their metro area has more breweries than any other metro area. I will throw in Turning Point Beer as they are about to open and NE IPAs are their focus.
I would definitely not say that Dallas is a craft beer desert. Maybe more like a stagnant pond. Plenty of water it's just not great to drink. But even then it's not as bad as that. Peticolas has good beer, as does Community. What is less lacking may be great IPAs. Although a lot of people like the IPAs at Division in Arlington and Turning Point is opening up now.
I hit up 4 breweries when I was there a couple of years ago, Lakewood, Community, Texas Ale Project and Oak Highlands Brewery. I think my favorite was Oak Highlands, had some interesting things on tap and taproom had a nice laid back vibe.
Spindletap is not in Dallas, but in my city. Those other beers that you named are also in my city. You gotta take a trip to Houston if you want to attend that brewery. We have about 180 open or in progress breweries. I can give you a list of the best to try if you want.
Franconia, Panther Island, Malai, Braindead all have NEIPAs in tank right now. Some should be available by then.
If you are looking for local taps, I would head directly to Craft and Growler by Fair Park (downtown), went last weekend and I would say 75% of their taps where from Texas, and they did have ***** Wagon. I would then head over to OnRotation for both their recipes and guest taps. And from there maybe Lakewood Growler next. Lots of excellent options as the other posters have said, just need to know where to look. Cheers
This is correct. For the moment, we may be a NEIPA desert, but there's plenty of other good beers. Most breweries have good beers of varying styles, depending on what you're into, just not hazy IPAs, but it's changing slowly. Malai Kitchen is the best so far, but Turning Point should be the best with production and distro capabilities. Other breweries are working on it just not there as of today.
Excited to see Turning Point is opening in a few weeks. Hopefully these guys can give us the haze we need.
I'm going to be in the Dallas area for a day or so on a quick work trip. Would love to hit up Jester King but don't have the time given how quick the trip is. My question is if it's reasonable to expect being able to stroll in a total wine or bottle shop and pick up some Jester King for me to bring home? Any advice is appreciated, I have no idea how easy or hard their stuff is to find in tx.
You can check the Total Wine website to see what the store closes to where you are staying has. Also Specs another large chain in Texas has a pretty good site that is often pretty accurate. Just find out the zip where you are staying. I am sure there are other places, just know these 2 allow you to view inventory
The last couple of times I've been in Dallas, Central Market has had a few bottles of JK laying around. I'm not sure about the rest of the Central Markets in the DFW area but I know the one off of 75, on Lovers Lane, has a growler fill station in the back.
