Any suggestions? Got tickets from a buddy for this Saturday's Jets vs. Cowboys. Craft beer/night life/must see spots? I am in college btw. Thanks

What part of town are you staying...this will help shape breweries and things to do? The Cowgirls stadium is in Arlington, which is centered between Dallas and Ft Worth and on the southern side of the metroplex. If you stay in/near downtown of either cities, you'll be a 30-45 minute drive to the stadium. I will tell you up front, there is a strong Dallas vs Ft Worth feeling in the DFW area, so be prepared for the bias perspectives.

Both cities are great, however sadly I've spent more time in Dallas then Ft. Worth (I say sadly because I'm from Michigan and currently live in Houston, but used to live in Dallas. As an outsider....take my word for it, Houston is the FAR superior major city).

Digressing a bit...Dallas' Uptown area is great for a college kid's entertainment. Lots of bars that you can walk back and forth to and most of the tasteless Dallas women congregate to this area.

If I were visiting Dallas today, I would make a point to check out Community Beer Co. They are one of my favorite craft brewers from Dallas. Also, Deep Ellum Brewing may be worth a check out. Its in Dallas' Deep Ellum neighborhood (which is where I lived when I was there). Deep Ellums' cool! Its a little more gritty and most Dallas' yuppies will look at you like your going to the hood. But screw'em, most Dallas folks are ******* anyway .

FINALLY, definitely check out Lonestar Beverages in Carrollton. I'm embarrassed to say I've never been, but lots of folks consider this to be one of the best places to buy craft beer in the state. If I went to Dallas today (something I'd never really look forward to doing ), I would definitely hit this shop up.

    Have fun! Cheers!

also as an outsider that has lived in both cities, I disagree with this wholeheartedly. not trying to start up the Houston hates Dallas fight, just pointing out to the OP that everyone will have an opinion and shouldn't just take one's word for it.

You're correct. Dallas is superior to Houston.

Anyway - need more info from OP. As asked above? Staying in Ft. Worth or Dallas?

Sell the tickets and have fun with the money instead.

Lonestar Beverages in Carrollton has a great selection as mentioned.

Pecan Lodge for BBQ in Deep Ellum, don't go too late though, as they will be out of meat.

I second this. Order yourself the brisket and burnt ends. Personally, I wouldn't mess with any sides. Wash that meat down with a velvet hammer on draft.

Or come over to the Ft. Worth side where just about everything is better, including the BBQ. If you're in Fort Worth, get to Heim BBQ. It's in a trailer for now (opening up a store front on Magnolia in March I believe), Thurs-Sun, lunch only. Pecan Lodge holds the edge in Brisket, hatch chili Mac and cheese, and sauce. Heim takes the cake in pork ribs, twice baked potato salad, and bacon burnt ends.

But you can't go wrong at pecan lodge, I'm just nostalgic for the old farmers market location.

Let us know where you will be staying and the recommendations will come flooding in, but make time for one of these two spots for BBQ for sure.

Let's be honest @sethsticles & @BullDoza, Texas is a pretty legit state to be in regardless of the where you're at.

AND!!!..we're pretty freaking lucky to have THREE major-metro areas as opposed to most state's one - DFW, HOU, AUS/SA. I'd move back to Dallas in a heartbeat, before I'd consider moving out of the state to some other city.

All in good fun friends! CHEERS!

Hey guys. Instead of starting a new thread, I'll just piggyback on here. I'm in Dallas for a week starting 1/4 and staying in "Market Center" if that's a real place. Looking for any places to get good drafts, bottles, or tacos/BBQ/burgers In the immediate area. Closest Whatsburger location also appreciated. Thanks!

If you're actually staying "in" Market Center you're:
    - ~1.3 miles SE of Whataburger
    - ~1.4 miles NW of Community Beer Co (brewery taproom)
    - ~1.2 mi N of Peticolas (brewery taproom)
    - < 1 mi NW of Meddlesome Moth (beer + food)
    - ~3.5 mi NW of Pecan Lodge (best BBQ in DFW, and easily top 5 in TX)

There are other options for beer that are a little farther that have been covered in every other Dallas thread (e.g. Common Table, Craft & Growler). Dallas kinda sucks for tacos.

Awesome thanks! I quoted Market Center because my hotel has that in the name, but I've found that sometimes those neighborhoods don't actually exist. Excellent info, read about Peticolas, Meddlesome Moth, Uchi, and 18th and Vine. Thanks again.

Market Center itself is basically a big wholesaler mall + convention center; there are a bunch of hotels nearby. I forgot that Uchi had opened a location in Dallas. If you're into Japanese food at all, and can budget for it, I'd highly recommend it.

I'd skip 18th and Vine, but I don't particularly care for KC BBQ.

Since the beer side has been addressed I will talk about the taco side.

Food trucks are your best bet for good tacos that would be in the area. As for places look for a Torchy's or a Rusty's location around your hotel.

But as stated above Dallas has been on the decline for good taco or even Telmex as of late. Check out Gas Monkey Bar and Grill for a good variety of foods.

Torchy's is definitely happening. We got hooked on their tacos (especially the deep fried avocado tacos) during SXSW many years back and it's a must for my wife. Just like Whataburger is a must for me. In fact, when we were in Austin last year, I told her I wanted to check out this one specific Torchy's and then just drove us to Jester King :sunglasses:

Thank you so much for this. I grew up in Chicago where tacos flowed freely, but now I live in the taco desert of Pittsburgh. Grimey taco stands forever.
