I'm looking for recommendations for some upcoming travel. I'm flying into DFW next week to spend some time in Waco. What bottle shops or breweries should I try to visit in either city? And what is available right now that I should try to snag if I can find it? I was thinking of seeking out Jester King, Freetail and maybe Prairie since it's in Oklahoma. I'm not sure what else I should try that I can't find in Florida.
Flying into DFW or Love Field? In Waco hit up The Dancing Bear for a badass bar. They do growler fills if that interests you.
DFW bottle shops: Lonestar in Carrollton, Hall's in Colleyville For breweries, check this spreadsheet. If you just want to try a bunch of local beers, I'd recommend getting a flight at Craft & Growler. Lakewood's Temptress, Community's Mosaic IPA, and Peticola's Velvet Hammer are the usual favorites. In DFW, you can find Jester King and Prairie at most places that carry craft beer (Whole Foods, Specs, Central Market, etc), but Freetail is currently only available on-site in San Antonio.
On breweries to hit - it would depend on what day of the week you're planning to go. Most are gonna be open on Saturday afternoon, just be aware not all do taproom hours. Regarding bottles that are particularly good to grab right now: I'd pick up St. Arnold Bishops Barrel 5, Boulevard BBQ if you see any around. Don't believe Florida gets Firestone Walker and Deschutes, so you could look for beers by them.
Hit up Dancing Bear for sure. I also just opened up a bottle shop in downtown Waco (Toledo's Hop Shop). Stop by and see me, I have Austin Beerworks, Jester King, Prairie, and Deep Ellum.
I will be flying into DFW. I'll keep my eyes open for Deschutes and Firestone Walker. Thanks for all the recommendations! Mayhaps.... Baggage fees are dumb, so I am thinking of FedEx'ing myself a box of what I'll need for the duration of my trip. I could sneak some CCB stuff in there!
Stop by Craft and Growler in Dallas. They have Oaktoberfest and Double Jack right now. Must have just ran out of Wookey Jack
Hall's Grocery is about 5 min away from DFW in Colleyville. Bottle Shops: Hall's Grocery Total Wine (75 & Walnut Hill - Dallas) Specs (75 & Walnut Hill - Dallas) Lonestar Beverage's is another great place (Carrollton) Bars: The Common Table (ask for special bottle menu) - Dallas The Meddlesome Moth (ask for special bottle menu) - Dallas Craft and Growler - Dallas Flying Saucer - Addison
Oh and if you bring a CCB - Life is Like, and then trade with me I will be grateful. My wife and I are anxious to try it.
