This morning when I went to track a package I was expecting this morning it said it has been damaged and not yet delivered. I guess my question is if I go to the UPS customer service center asking about a damaged package and they say it had beer in it, will it cause any trouble for myself or the person who sent it? Is this something best left alone until UPS reaches out about the damaged package? Should I just play dumb and say I didn't know what was getting shipped to me and it was a gift? Any and all advice is welcome, thanks BA's!
The shipper usually receives any notices from UPS/FedEx about what's going on with it - they're returning it to sender, or whatever. The shipper is also responsible for any insurance claim that would be made on it. Ask him/her what's going on.
Usually the shipper needs to deal with this. As the recipient they probably won't even talk to you about it. They have probably already opened it up though and know exactly what is in there. UPS seems to lean on the side of destruction/confiscation, Fedex seems to lean on the side of returning/sending as planned. But you never know what you're going to get...
Thanks cbeer, I'll let the shipper handle this then. Luckily, he's a great trader so I'm sure this will get straightened out.
I would also suggest looking through the last 10 pages in this sub-forum. There are multiple threads that will give plenty of ideas on how to handle this case that have popped up in the last couple months.
My trader just spoke with UPS. Neither of them brought up what was in the package, all that was said was UPS 'disposed of the broken merchandise'. Definitely a bummer, but I guess this is just stuff we have to deal with as traders sometimes....
I had a bunch of busted bottles broken in MN, I took the lump. Freaked me out now I cut xtras for more bubble wrap.
When i recently had an exception, I called right away to set up a trace. (Unless I am the recipient, then I call the shipper first. Also, probably important to know I always ship FedEx.) I was able to save the box, even though it was discovered to have beer!! Story for another thread, but BM me for details.
