was the package well wrapped and packed?
if it wasn't, then it's your fault (or who ever packed it).

other than that. who knows. maybe the night kid x-rayed the package and saw what it was and poured it/ thrown it way.

most people who work @ the post office and or UPS wouldn't even know what HT is.

the lady at my local post office has warnings posted that contra band will be thrown away and/or reported to the police.

of course if it were a beer nerd, craft enthusiast or what ever, you would have had your stuff either taken or sent merrily on it's way. lol.

i had shipped a package 2 years ago that had a good amount of bottles in it, the tracker was halted for a few days so i called UPS, they said my package had a small leak but it was on its way... maybe i got away with a fast one, fortunately only one backwoods was lost. resent a few more in our next trade. In your situation, it might be a lost cause :/

It's happened to me once shipping through UPS as well. It's gone, you wont get it back. The UPS store your dad shipped it through will call your dad and let him know that the box was suspected to have beer in it, and that the driver/sorting facility discarded it (or drank it) and remind him that shipping beer is illegal.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a great box. All you can do is pack better next time. Good luck!

You can try to call the UPS place, & ask to retrieve it. Odds are it's not there, but who knows? It happens to the best of us & me too...

This would get a lot better educated responses in the trading forum.

That said, I don't believe it is exactly illegal.

But your father should file a claim anyway. The worst that could happen is they deny it. He should NOT say it was beer but a care-package/graduation gift. MANY traders have had bottles break/packages discarded and have their insurance claim honored.

That said, your beers are gone. The best you can hope for is to be repaid for the beer, shipping cost, and packaging materials.

    Hope this helps.

Shipping beer is illegal and he should not go file a claim unless he wants to be flagged for future shipments. Sadly, you lost your Lunch, and your Topper, but I would just leave well enough alone (and did when it happened to me).

This won't help you cope with your loss any...but seriously...tell your dad to use fedex next time.

I've probably shipped over 100 boxes and the only issues I've ever had (maybe 3-4 times) were with UPS...stopped using them a LONG time ago.

Cant say Fedex is much better. Had a package go off the radar and reported it on friday, and these are the first three trades I have sent via shipping. After 3 phone calls to fedex reps there is no one who can say anything but sorry. Gonna try for the last time today and hope someone is actually going to do there job. At least the BA I traded with is understanding and I will have to hook him up with another box or expand his box if I have to resend another. Trading beer via shipping adds a premium to $, but thats o.k. because you get to try different beers but when your shipper screws up and those 2 4-packs cost you $100.00 that kind of sucks. Going to have to come up with a bullet proof, soundproof shipper and then I can use anyone I want to ship.

Yeah fedex is not the end all be all. People just "generally" have better luck with them then UPS on here. In then end it definitely takes some luck. Sorry about your package. That sucks.
    Cheers!

I have shipped 40+ boxes, mostly using FedEx and sometimes UPS. I recently lost a box via FedEx. It seems like it happens and it can happen to anyone. As anyone who has gotten a box from me can attest that I prepare it for shipping hell. It seems one of my FedEx driver is especially cruel to the shipping world as I've seen him throw boxes up my stairs instead of walking up them and also launching boxes I've had FedEx pick up into his truck. It's sad but a pissed off person or a careless fork lift operator can be the end of any perfectly packed boxed. I am sorry you lost yours. I personally didn't purse reimbursement for my lost box and recommend you or your father follow the same suit. No need for extra attention to the fact you are knowingly breaking their company policy.

Lost a box containing DB Huna, Huna, Loons, CCB Catador and some other SoFL goodies via FedEx on its way to Portland two months ago. Lost upwards of $250 worth of brews on that one. Most were irreplaceable. Been there and done that...

@RKing44 is right. It can happen to anyone, and I too, am sorry for your loss. "Shipping Hell" is pretty accurate. All of those high speed conveyors with boxes banging into each other or falling off the conveyor. Trying to sort and pack a truck as fast as possible. Having a bad day? Nothing screams bullseye like the word "FRAGILE". Shipping hell , indeed.

I am sure your dad did a fine job packing the box. I don't know how he did it, but if I may, I'd like to offer a few pointers that help me sleep at night whenever I am shipping a box. Line the box with a contractor grade garbage bag. The thickness makes it harder to puncture and will catch any tattle tale beer. Also wrap your bottles or cans in newspaper and then place in a ziplock bag before wrapping in bubble wrap. Again, to catch any beer from a possble break. Makes sure any gaps between the bottles are fills with some kind of padding so they can't move. This might be overkill but, I then place that box in a slightly larger box and fill the gaps with packing peanuts. It gives your box a crumple zone and helps to deaden the sloshing sound that bottles might give off. I hope I didn't sound like a know it all. Just sharing what works for me. And I am curious how @RKing44 packs ... I am always looking for pointers on how to pack a better box.

So no offense to @RKing44 because he packs one helluva box. You've got nothing to learn from him @creepinjeeper. Your box today was bomb proof and I mean it.

I rarely have wine shippers so personally, I am huge advocate of the box in box technique. A Home Depot Heavy Duty 16 x 12 x 12 outer box has been my go to lately. Just a real solid, double wall constructed box and it's less than $1.50 by me. For the inner box, I grab a wine or bomber box from my local store and make sure it has the dividers in it. Each bottle is placed in it's own Ziploc bag, wrapped in bubble wrap with rubber bands and put in its own divider. I line the inside bottom and walls of the inner box with bubble wrap too. Once all my bottles are in their dividers I take newspaper or bubble wrap and stuff it between the rows of bottles in between the bottlenecks. Then, I pack the top of the bottles with bubble wrap until it gets to the top of the box. I try and stuff the box with wrap as much as I can to minimize the movement of the bottles when they get turned upside down, sideways etc. I tape the shit out of the inner box. The inner box gets put in a trash bag and I fill the outer box with either packing peanuts or 1/2" bubble wrap and pack it so that the inner box has minimal movement when getting thrown around via FedEx employees. Finally, I tape the shit out of the outer box.

But, as we stated all that work can turn to wasted time from one accident. I would rather pack like that than skimp out and have a bottle or 2 break due to my neglect.

Sounds as if we pack exactly alike except,I don't use the cardboard dividers. I was afraid I was driving the people that got my boxes crazy.
