Hey everyone, I was hoping for a little insight on what something like this would go for? I posted an ISO Rare and a KH for my 08 Dark lord and got nothing. Eventually the thread turned into a shitstorm and it wound up getting deleted so I guess I was asking too much. I know I had a few offers for a single KH for it but thought that was too low. So can anyone tell me if 4x beats would be too much? Or a Victor Francenstein? I'm really not trying to have this come off as an auction but I really have no idea where to start with this.
Speaking just from personal opinion, I probably wouldn't trade 1 beat for an '08 DL. In general, I'm not sure any of your offers are ridiculous, but I think you probably could go 1:1 with Rare, and Rare can probably go 4:1 with beat so I think either of those would be reasonable. Might still get you shat on, but that's about as hard to predict.
From what I know it's supposed to be the best year; I had one last year and it was the only version I liked. I had a few people scoff at even asking for a Rare.
I did a 1:1. Kate '11 (from me) for DL '08. Had a chance to get an '06 thrown in, but that bottle went to someone who needed/wanted it more than I did. It's all about finding the person who wants what you've got.. If someone gets their panties in a twist, ignore them. Best of luck in your future searches.
Well, hopefully that day comes sooner than later! I just feel "stuck" on what my value is of the beer and am having a hard time letting it go for anything less.
It's simple, my friend, you are over-valuing that beer by a mile..it is great,yes..and I love Dark Lord...some vintages better than others..but 08' is fantastic..It will likely never command a Rare 1 for 1, much less what you asked for in your ISO...sure 08 DL will appreciate in value, but at the same time, so will Rare..just my opinion..
As far as Beatification goes, I would say 4 is too many. And while I would actually say 2008 DL is a good beer, the last bottle I had was also about 1/3 goop/sludge so I probably would never trade for that year again.
I'd say a big part of the issue is going to be the cost of Rare from what I have heard was like $50, and while the 08 is older and is a good beer (the only DL I've had that I kinda liked), it still was only $15-20. Wouldn't be as big of an issue for a less rare beer, but Rare is probably just as rare/desired as an older Dark Lord. This is a big part of the reason why a Rare will trade for 3-4 Beatifications. If a Rare is really what you are seeking, you may want to try expanding on your side. At the end of the day though, what you really need to find is someone who really loves Dark Lord, I was never a big fan, but I know people who absolutely love it and value it far higher than I do. If I were you, I would open up your trade to more options, even if they aren't all things you necessarily want. Things like a CBS and another bottle, or a Bar Fly, or a Chocolate Rain, or a Black Tuesday and another bottle, may be even a bottle of Damon (probably unlikely, but who knows). Some of these may be off value wise, just examples. Focus on things there are more demand for. Dark Lord is very much a love it or hate it beer. The more options you list, the more likely you are to find someone who loves it and will trade for it at a reasonable value, then you can take what you get and focus on finding whatever it is you are looking for (or ideally if it's a bottle you actually want to try, then you can just drink it ^_^).
