Never had any Dark Lord and being offered the '11-'14 vertical for about $160 worth of stouts and sours. Worth it?

Probably not at that price! (and I have an '09-14 vertical right now).

How did you/he come up with that $ amount? $40/bottle seems high

I'm assuming he's factoring in DLD tickets, waiting and the "cellaring" for the vintages.

    what stouts and sours?

I'd say trade for a '14 on a $4$ basis. Drink it and then you won't be as excited to over trade for a 4 year vert

I'm curious if there is any single beer with a bigger discrepancy between trade value and taste as Dark Lord.

Founders Imperial Stout - or probably 10 others on the shelf at your good local store - are better than Dark Lord

KBBS is worse then dark lord when it comes to the bullshit..and this years kbbs was way over coffeed

I feel like I way over traded for 1 kbbs, my trade partner got a jd mexi cake, barrel aged huna, lots of westbrook, and an ippp.

Not worth it. And I am not a Dark lord hater...I actually enjoy it on occasion. But what good trader would 'charge' someone a 2.7x mark-up in cost for Dark Lord in a trade? Unless the stouts and sours you are offering are Guinness and Lindemann's, I don't see how this is fair. Given that you live in Illinois, I recommend hitting DLD one year and enjoy for yourself. I have found a combination of patience, being nice to people, and a little effort brings about most of the beers I'd like to try. Good luck, and cheers!

Echoing that it probably isn't worth that much.

Just finished an '04-'14 DL tasting a few weekends ago though and the '13 and '14 are definitely on the upper end of the list. A lot of people try one year of DL and then think it's edgy and cool to rag on it and be too good for DL. Some years were amazing (I'm looking at you '09) and others were lackluster.

If you get the chance to try it for cheaper (more like $20-30 per) and like big, sweeter stouts, you should go for it.

'14 DL is the best one I've had of the 09-14 that I've gotten to taste. Might as well trade for a '14 now if you've never had it and then decide from there..
