That was just the line format. In past DLDs everyone can free flow through the gates as long as you have a ticket. At XV the entry line was the same line as the beer line, so it moved very slow, and you could not enter the gates unless you were in that line. Again, it sucked for anyone who showed up later than open because they waited forever, but I liked it because I was in fairly quickly and it was hardly congested.

Maybe my opinion would be different if I had to wait in line most of the day without being able to try any of the tap beers and such, but I will never know because I am always way early. Either way it'll be a great time.

We had 2 laptops and a desktop going in my apartment trying to buy tickets and only 1 of the laptops didn't connect fast enough to buy tickets. I kind of blame it on the operator though. We didn't seem to have a problem.

lucky you. I ordered faster internet just for this event. I tested my speed right before tickets went on sale. My download speed was 32 megabits per second and my upload speed was 9 megabits per second. I still got clogged on the site and It took a minute to load the actual ticket site. then when I added tickets to my cart (group C) they were sold out all ready. I tried 1 right after than and nothing. Kept trying different stuff for 40 min before I finally gave up.

I bought Refused tickest too and got real ones in case i cant go come July. Only venues that do will call only are Schubas and Lincoln Hall.. great idea but for DLD being 6k people.. unreasonable.. to be honest how many tickets are on ebay!? not that many.. its not like everyone didnt get a ticket because of a few scalpers...

The Festival of Wood & Barrel Aged Beer in Chicago did that this past November. (same day as the XV party, yikes) Their reasoning was to keep people from scalping tickets. They had lists and crossed people off as they gave them bracelets at the door. I don't really think that 3F's security would be capable of doing this...

I'm starting to think maybe this just needs to be a beer release only that has a pick-up window of a few weeks or something. Kind of like Upland in Indy/Bloomington does with their sours. I'd hate to miss the event because I've always had such a good time though. Hmmm

I emailed the ticket company and was told they do not ship out the tickets until 2 weeks before the event.

2 Weeks before? Does not really give you much time to resolve any problems if any come happen to come up.

Last year a person in our group didn't get his tickets, but was able to make contact with FFF the week of, and they had his name at the gate to grab replacement tickets upon entering. They voided out the original ones. His tickets did eventually arrive in the mail, a few months later, ha.

I noticed this too. I'm still not ready to throw down a hundred per ticket, but if they were to get closer to $50 I think I would have to do it. Still hoping to work out a trade or something instead.

Last year tickets were astronomical right after the sale, and they came way down. I don't think it's necessarily bad to buy a scalped ticket... I mean, you know it's perpetuating a problem, but what are you going to do, skip the event that your friends are going to, and that you've been looking forward to for a couple of months? There's some markup threshold that I'd pay, knowing that I resent the seller, but that I want the beer and the hang. We had friends who got tickets for close to $60 last year. Just under $100 for XV. I think my max threshold is somewhere between those two. But that's me.

There isn't an online ticket sale "solution." It's not the people with family helping to buy tickets etc that are the problem. It's supply and demand. I didn't have helpers myself, but we ended up with what we thought were 3 extra tickets among my group of friends who are going. Those tickets are now going to some of the friends who got skunked. Hey, if you and your mom and your uncle and your cousin all want to try to get tickets, great. I don't see it as sketchy until you score 10 tickets, and decide to try to sell your spares for more than you paid for them. But this is preaching to the choir on BA. I certainly hope people are living up to their word, and that none of the craigslist or ebay sales are from BAs. But that's life. There are always scumbags trying to make a dollar off of you.

I'm still willing to trade to trade my hotel room at the Hampton Inn in Munster for a ticket.

Although if I found a ticket for $50, I'd probably pay it.

Unrelated to the current facet of this discussion, but I was wondering if any of you more experienced DLD-goers (this year will be my first time) have recommendations on what I should bring. I already have some decent brews, but not particularly rare(Hanssen's Artisinal Oude Geuze, Saison Rue). What I was thinking is that I could also pick up some stuff local to my state, too(BA B.O.R.I.S., White Rajah, Mt. Carmel, et al.).

Point being, what do you like to see when you're there?

You have the right idea already. White Rajah will go over well... the lines are usually stout heavy, so sours are a great antidote.

Bring a liter bottle of water. Bring a cup or 42. Always remember your towel.
