I honestly see no need to get there early for DLD. I got there early for the XV with about 100 people in front of me and was literally the first person in the brewpub hoping that they would have some special brews on tap. I was sad to see that only Baller, along with their regulars were flowing. I sipped on a Baller, chatted with my bartender buds and headed out to the tent. From there, grabbed a DL coffee concoction and enjoyed a few guest taps. I then got in line, waited maybe an hour, grabbed the Baller and put it in truck. Maybe I cut some people...maybe I didn't...I don't recall.

Since the better guest taps were flowing later in the day, it all worked out great. Limited bottles @ DLD will probably be scratch off tickets like last year, and if anything, the bottle allocation will be increased at the end of the day, as I believe it was last year. With maybe some leftovers from last year, $20/bottle I believe?

That being said...I have two group A in my hands right now. If you think it will be really worth it to get there early, I am willing to trade for C tickets...make me an offer.

This will be my first Dark Lord Day, I planning on bringing lots of Colorado beer to share and trade hopefully. I'm just curious how all of this goes down. From what I've read on this and various other websites it sounds like there's beer everywhere. I read that they will allow a few bottles inside, are there just hoards of people opening bottles and sharing beer inside the grounds (sounds a little like heaven)? Also is this same thing happening in line?

Go really early in the morning, and yes, the line will be pouring freaking amazing. You can bring as much beer as you reasonably want to bring, and then just stow your cooler back in your car before they open the gates. They should allow bottle sharing on the premises. If the security tries to stop you, tell them it's for bottle trading. But they will probably not bug you, unless you try to bring a giant backpack or cooler in.

Cool Video. 05 was my first DLD (I am the guy standing with his arms crossed in the first frame). Didn't know what to expect back then and had a great time. Met lots of folks that day that are still good friends today. Thanks for posting.

They split the lines last year. The b and c tickets could go right in and the a tickets were tied to the bottle purchase line like xv.

If you have an "A" ticket, you can get you bottles between 10 and noon, "B" 1 to 3 and "C" 5 to 7 if I rememeber the times. If you miss your time, I am sure you can get in the other line if you want. I have "B" and I cannot go in until 1.

I think their expectation is that everyone will have fun AND get their beer.

If Mike Ditka was a hurricane and got into a fight with the entire east coast... Who would win in what would the score be?

The brewpub still had Dark Lord on draft the day after DLD last year.

At least the past two years, they have had Dark Lord on tap at the pub the morning after.

Looks like they've announced the bands this morning - EYEHATEGOD (Nola sludge) is the biggie at the moment, along with Argonauts (New Jersey/RVA featuring Dave Witte from Municipal Waste/Discordance Axis/Burnt By The Sun) and Powermad (Todd Haug from Surly's band). Also on the bill is "Ghan Jovi," which is a "huge surprise" band - given the Tolkien reference and the Ragnarok porter of last year along with a space of inactivity around that time, I'm gonna guess maybe they've gotten Amon Amarth. This is, of course, conjecture...

Tolkien reference? They are a Bon Jovi reggae cover band.
