Seeing as this is Indiana, why aren’t there hoards of religious zealots protesting this festival every year? Maybe someone can step up and muckrake in some local papers for this coming year? Can’t be that hard to convince people this is legit a satanic festival.

I think drunkenly heckling some angry people holding signs could really bring this year’s fest to the next level.

Sounds like it's time for another debate as to whether Chicagoland includes Munster or not!

Don’t be rude. Redheads shouldn’t be compared to Indiana.

I have to drive through the entire state to get to Munster, and for comparison, I would definitely separate it from the rest of the state.

My brother in Valpo gets Chicago local news on TV. I like that standard for Chicagoland.

One Madagascar vanilla bean, about nine bucks at my local grocery store. Split the bean long ways with a knife but make sure everything ends up in the jar. I use a pint jar, a quart jar might take two beans.

I use oak cubes from a homebrew shop. I have done it with chips but that turns into ugly floaters in your beer. The cubes stay together and make for a better experience. Fill the jar half way with cubes, a quarter of the way with chips.

Then fill the jar with bourbon. On this I have gone high and low end. Honestly, the oak cubes will do everything to a cheap bourbon that you need. I always recommend Ten High. I recommend it for more than this. 15 bucks for a half gallon on the bottom shelf at the grocery store. If mixing, It's as good as some top shelf stuff. I keep it in a crystal decanter and get compliments on its quality all the time... I find this hilarious.

For any home brewers out there. This is exactly the process I used for flavoring the Dragon Abortion stout drank at DLD last year.

Another note on the splash jar.... I cannot seem to keep them anymore. My boss comes over and mixes it with coke. I tried it once, it's amazing.

Keep topping the jar off with bourbon as you use it. The oak and vanilla will keep giving for a year or more. When the flavor fades, start a new one.

This area is, for better or worse, known as the Region. Short for Calumet Region, but more normally abbreviated to just 'da Region. The Region is a rare animal: a two-headed red-headed step child. Chicago doesn't typically recognize us (unless its for something negative), and sure as hell Indianapolis and downstate Indiana don't want us. Just our tax dollars, so they can build better stadiums in downtown Indy.

From my perspective, da Region is part of Chicago, even though they don't want us.

Now, back on topic - I'm worried about DLD being moved back to the 19th. Prime time for a late spring snow storm. Mark it down - you heard it hear first.
