I'll throw mine in the microwave prior to bringing it to DLD, then keep it in a coffee tumbler to keep it hot. It'll probably be the star of the show.

FVM 17 was just completely dominated by the Muscat barrel. It did not mesh well with the DL at all. It was interesting, and by no means bad, but the flavors really butted heads in my experience.

So because people describe beer as "green peppery" they're opinions are invalid? There were 6+ people who tried the bottle I opened, and the consensus was that it was a bad beer. And most people pointed out the green pepper flavor.

I opened my bottle of '17 FVM the weekend after DLD, and didn't get so much as a hint of green pepper. It was primarily exactly as @wolfatyourdoor described. My buddy opened his '17 FVM at his wedding about a month ago, and it was the same story.

Pump the brakes bud, I definitely did not say that and thought I made myself pretty clear, but I guess not clear enough.

Where I detect a sort of medium roast, ground earthy coffee flavor, the same two people I mentioned above detect green pepper, pretty much every time. Their opinion is valid to them and others like them, but to me, and I've had FVM '17 and thoroughly enjoyed it, I can't take into consideration people who taste green pepper in beers with added coffee, because that would tempt me to exclude a number of beers that, in the past, I have found to be absolutely stellar.

@Sabtos Understood..... Also, part of the disappointment in 17 FVM was knowing how stellar 16 FVM was. 17 was a completely different beer IMO.

One of the variants was aged in soy sauce barrels. True story bro.

So glad they decided to use the Silicon Valley “Middle-out“ method for variants this year! My Group C buds gettin handjees all around; Oprah style!

I am local to The Answer, and can confirm that Andall beers are just flavored beers from other breweries. The novelty wears off very fast, I am always surprised that other locals still go there to drink these sugar bombs. BUT, if you were drinking a stout off-premises, it was a legit beer that they brewed. They don't crowler their andall stouts, and the stouts that they brew are actually very good. The jooses are total BS in my opinion though, and $20/crowler is a joke.

At the beginning of this thread I was excited to try some beers from The Answer... Now, not so much.

So it's kind of like the Dark Lord variants, but they take another brewers beer and make it better with additives instead of FFF using their own beer and adding additives to make it worse?

I still feel like their 3.50% Berliners could be a nice break from BA stouts and hops, if available.

May be a healthy break too, with all that fruit juice!

My wife and I are going the day after, what are the chances that I might catch a variant on draft?

I'd say 50/50.... Regular will definitely be on, and some times they have variants.

you should get something interesting on draft. I think for about a week after DLD they have "rotating leftover from DLD taps"

A variant? Basically zero. Dark Lord, like 50/50. Something yummy and limited like zombie vs unicorn or mother of dreadnaught, pretty damn good.
