Yeah. For being an outdoor festival it does sound decent. Vulgaari sounded great when they played a few years ago. Obituary and COC sounded great. I’m not usually an outdoor show fan, but I have been pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the sound at DLD.

There's an awkward old high school newspaper with a picture of me in a Panzer Division Marduk shirt floating around somewhere.

Same here. Black metal would help round out the lineup for sure, especially with so many great USBM bands right now - Falls of Rauros, etc. Nachtmystium before old boy went even further off the deep end would have been great. Absu, Uada, Ash Borer, Agalloch (that was my wish a few years ago, RIP).

I just hope to continue seeing bands new to the festival.

And I like Goatwhore, but bring back Soilent Green already.

I'm a die-hard Marduk fanboy but I would completely lose my shit if they got Behexen, or like Batushka or something with the outfits and stage sets. Actually I've always thought Cult of Fire would be an awesome fit from a visual standpoint - can you imagine their setup gracing DLD? The full-on black mass with the crosses and goat heads might be the only thing that would top it.

And you are far too generous! But I'm sure as hell not gonna turn down BA Sump lol, PM incoming.

Agalloch are/were fucking great but realistically, I like to see bands with some energy when I've been drinking... I never saw them live, but from their records, I'd lean toward something a bit faster. Same with Ash Borer, the fast parts make me want to break shit, but I damn near fell asleep during the interludes when I saw them play. Uada are perfect though - I saw them last October and was blown away, they'd be perfect for DLD.

Honestly the sound is better, being outdoors...metal in a small club with a sound system that's actually powerful is fucking torture

Was that at Reggie's in Chicago? And holy hell I'd give away my bottles for Batushka.

And yeah, in hindsight folky black metal wouldn't be the best fit after a day of drinking, haha.

I'd do unspeakable things to see Batushka. And no, I saw them in Indy, but I imagine it was the same tour if it was in October. They basically played the entire first album and it was magical.

I’d be thrilled with any of these bands-
    Pallbearer
    Pelican
    RLYR
    sunn o)))
    Iron Reagan
    Power Trip
    Atlas Moth
    Indian
    Neurosis

Not sure if any of them have prior engagements on DLD, but Bring it on FFF!

sunn o))) in the sun would be blasphemy - and it would be great. I'd also love it if they book Bongripper, but doesn't feel likely. I do however think Oozing Wound may make an appearance.

Additionally - I'm predicting the band lineup drops on 420. Straight speculation.

I would back this just so I could see the confused faces as dudes dressed as druids recreate the sound of glaciers moving set to a backdrop of fog machines. (see also: Portal)

Obituary was great a few years ago, because, while they are death metal, I think they are more accessible than bands like Pig Destroyer, Lord Mantis, Plague Bringer. And while this admission might out me as a geek, I think younger heavy metal / power metal bands would also be a great fit. 3 Inches of Blood would have been a great fit before they broke up - appease the metalheads, entertain everyone else. I think the same could be said for Visigoth (their 2018 is amazing - like Grand Magus with a little less Manowar and a little more Iron Maiden).

I will also say that the crowds are usually pretty great despite the inherent inaccessibility of the music. At the opposite end of the spectrum, I know I wouldn't be as patient at a beer festival with a pop band playing. So, aside from a few meatheads in the pit and occasional mocking from the crowd, it's pretty great to see so many people open to something new. I always find common ground with metalheads there and talk with newcomers who want band suggestions, etc.

Needless to say, ladies and gents, I'm pretty stoked.

There is only one appropriate band for DLD.

    Mortician

A friend once told me "Dude, if you turn down your speakers all the way, you can almost hear their riffs." Hahah. What an endorsement.

With that said, I miss The Berzerker.

Oh, man. Saw Berzerker open up for someone in the early 00's. They put on a great show. I've never heard the words "Cheers!" and "G'day!" following a swig of beer so much in one show.

Alright...this year, for the first time, I will not be arriving at DLD until the mid-afternoon. I'll be leaving straight from a graduation. I won't have a DD as usual so It'll be a couple of pours, some food, bottle pick-up and out I go. I mean, I will have time to hang around and BS I just won't be drinking much. That being said and getting directly to my question, where will I be able to park? Traveling by car is my only option. I looked into shuttles but the last ones stop by 1pm at the latest. HELP! :confounded:

Just park in one of the pay lots. There will assuredly be availability mid-afternoon as people will have started leaving prior to that. I usually go to the one with the firemen as the money goes to a good cause imo.

Where's it located? I'm used to just staring at FFF as we pull up and get dropped off.
