Why is that Dark Matter line at DLD always so goddamn brutal? I skipped it this year, grabbed one of the coffee bombers and a mug on my way out when the line was pretty much gone.

How much were the bottles at DLD of Dark Matter coffee? Someone told me 16 and another told me 12

I'm guessing there's only room for so many POS registers and the demand always far exceeds that.

They have limited quantities so people want to score their wares before they sell out.

The dark matter line was stupid. For one no one knew what they had available outside of necromancer so there was this shopping/decision making delay...they only had 2 registers...there was major confusion btwn the coffee line and the bottle line...oh and no one seemed to be able to grasp the pin number system yet

so yeah...that first hour was painful.

This was the third DLD for me and whether it's rain or shine I've always had a great time. My biggest take away from this year is I was happily surprised at the availability of most of the variants on tap. FFF seemed to have ramped up production, especially with Handjee which is great for everyone. I went in thinking to myself how many kegs of each could they have? Especially of past years variants. When we walked in around 10am and saw the ChemTrailMix line I thought there's no chance in trying any of these beers but ended up trying Brozerker, Dwarves Power Bottom, Hung Drawn n Quartered and Handjee on draft. Sure the lines were long, but sharing beer with people made it (dare I say) enjoyable.

The one thing I did not take advantage of were the guest taps. Didn't have a single one. Don't even remember where they were being poured. Spent the day sharing beer and drinking Dark Lord. I for one can't complain.

Hope to be back next year for #DarkLineDay2019

If you were an afternoon attendee they guest drafts were pretty blah. They had CBS around 4 or 5pm, but things like Mikkeller Cocoa Shake seemed to sit there all day long. FFF will have to figure out what it wants to be next year. If they have these quantities of variants is there a need for other brewers to be there?[[/QUOTE]

I'm confused why people are excited for FFF to start using their own distillery barrels for the variants (other than a potential reduction in European wine barrels used). I highly doubt that their barrels are going to be better than the average bourbon/rye barrels coming in from the big distillers anytime soon, if ever.

I'm a homer for a brewery in my town and love them but I truly believe a huge part of their inconsistency in their BA beers is that they usually get their barrels from a local craft distillery that's just not as good as the big guys (especially when it comes to bourbon).

other thoughts. How is regular this year? i didnt want to try regular this year because i was able to get so many of the variants and I didnt want to die.

also, i cant remember seeing many guest taps at all. I think they were interspersed with FFF taps, because i did see that mikkeller one listed above and I think quanto was on tap next to it.

Someone in one of our groups (lol) opened one--thought it was great. More nutty and chocolatey than past versions, not as sweet too, maybe a touch more roast.

Will pile on too...guest drafts were a huge after thought, not just because there was so much anticipation for the variants being the main plan in even approaching the draft lines, but you could barely even see the guest drafts without pushing through 3 dozen people. It became more hassle than it was worth.

I had a draft pour of regular DL 18 while waiting for the 10am FVM. split with the 2 guys behind me. I thought it was damn tasty. have only had 14, 16 & 17 so maybe I'm not the best source for comparison between years.

The only reason I tried two of the guest drafts was because nobody around us was sharing and we wanted something to sip on while waiting for a variant, otherwise, I agree that while I did occasionally check them, they were an afterthought.

Tried The Answer Skull Piercer, my palate was too wrecked to have any opinion of it; and Dark & Stormy by Firestone, which may very well be the first beer I couldn't even finish, I enjoy rum and barley wines, but this was just a boozy mess.

I would be interested to see a list of what guest taps they had throughout the day. A couple I started to wait in line for were VSOD & Hunahpuh but I was brought a variant by my buddies so I just bailed from the line.
