Dark Lord (2018)

popped 18 last night, loved it, even more than 17. even the gf loved it and she previously hated DL

 

Fantastic even as usual. "The most glorious shit show on Earth!". This was my 5th year.

We got there around 8. Tough to tell who was drinking outside to get down to the limit versus the actual line.

Once we got in, one guy searched my bag pretty well, but never cared to look at the bottle sizes. I took in 2-750s, 2-510s, 1-500. The GF had 4 bottles, and her person said 3 was the limit but let her in anyway. Really bizarre. We took food in, but then it got confiscated on re-entry.

Variant lines were stupid early and mid-day, but great near the end. No line for Handjee at 8pm. So much cutting.

It seemed to get REALLY crowded around 1-3. Worse than before. Manageable before and after though.

Variants were delicious. I wanted more from Hung/Drawn but it was very subtle. Chemtrail was really nice, Handjee was fantastic.

Some of the guest taps just needed to be taken down, as they were on all day. (Sun KIng Cherry Busey Razzleblaster, I'm looking at you).

Bands/Volume/Sound quality was good.

Food was fantastic.

All in all, a great time and I'll hope to go again next year!

 

Last year there was an awesome pic of a guy passed out and surrounded by dope whale bottles. After I saw that in the 17 thread I went out and ISO'd a DL17 hard, just to try and get on that guy's level.

This year all I've heard about is some goth girl being self righteous about urinating in public? Not ISO DL18! SAD! MAKE DL GREAT AGAIN! Post pics of middle aged men passed out after pounding pastry!

My first DLD, what a blast. My buddy and I can't wait to go back next year. Was there from 10-5 which we felt was a good amount of time. Loved the sharing aspect of it, everywhere I walked or was in line, people were willing to share whatever they had, a lot of the times without anything in return. A lot of great conversation with people from all over.

Only DL line we waited in was for 2016 DPB, otherwise we stuck to sharing and guest taps. We didn't have an interest in hour or two hour lines. Guest taps were a bit of a letdown, just because some were stuck on for many hours, but we found a few gems. Sharing highlights for me were Cycle Sunday and Bruery Grey Monday, both excellent.

Ended up getting Handjee which I was pumped about. Anyone else in Group D there when the guy came out of the bottle pickup area and dropped his tote and broke everything? Absolutely brutal.

Looking forward to next year!

Saw him for a while outside of the festival around 4-5. They took both of their wristbands, so he couldn't go back in.

Yes! I was about 10 feet away. At that point I had already secured my Handjee in my backpack. It sounded weird when it his bag hit the ground, not the typical shattering glass. The bag kinda muted/distorted the sound.

 

Probably made worse if he had just gone through the sea of carnival barkers offering him hundreds of dollars to sell his variant....

 

This year was the worst. They were like the zombies in the Walking Dead. Arms and heads poking thru the barrier. Grrraaahhhuuhhggghh selling variant?

 

I had posted my review of 2018 ChemTrailMix earlier today, only to find they completely deleted the entire entry and the beer itself. I have reported the 2017 version so that they are aware, and hopefully restore it. They deleted a unique variation since 2018 was with Rye barrels, and already had like 5 unique reviews on it...

 

so hopefully I am not to blame for this. what happened was this: I added all the new DL 18 variants the night FFF announced them. yesterday I noticed somebody had duplicated like half of the entries I made and rated them including chemtrail, CoV, like 4 others and even regular DL (calling it "Dark Lord - 2018"). so I reported them all as duplicate entries (this isn't untappd - if a beer doesn't change no new entry is needed for each friggin vintage) and today I noticed all had been cleared up except Chemtrail - both entries were still there. now they are both gone? sorry in advance if I f*cked this up.

 

I did feel like chemtrail needed a new listing as Rye barrels are a change from previous year's chemtrail. perfect example is FVM - it's been a different barrel every year. those are different beers. if a brewery uses the same barrels though and ages for 14 months instead of 10, no new entry is needed in my mind (I see this all the time with SP blends and it drives me crazy).

anyway, sorry I know that this is mostly not DLD related.

I agree, this isn't Untappd, but you are right @Luscious_Malfoy to have added the new entries this year that were unique to previous years. However someone was overzealous with deletion. I saw the Chem you added and that was correct. I also saw the unnecessary duplicates someone added yesterday. I didn't think it'd be too hard to sort out but apparently it was for whoever took that task on. I hope they're able to retrieve the reviews. I think I also saw one by @eppie82 and the guy with the Fou Foune avatar...a couple others

 

They deleted the 2017 Ronaldo too? Muscat is a pretty big difference from Madeira...
