We just recently got a shipment of it here in Chicago, so it's still being produced. Thought it was weird it didn't show up on tap as well.

I agree. Tastes very good but much sweeter than usual. Should age well though, knock down the sweetness a bit.

Makes me sick, how many people are stealing at this thing every year. Honestly I'm probably going to get a little padlock to go on my backpack in future years.

Don't get me wrong, it was delicious. The sweetness was just tooooooo much for me. I'm trying to figure out if it's because I've cut down on things with sugar in them, or if FFF decided to make DL "even moar xtreme!!!"

Yeah, I don't typically cellar/age bottles intentionally, but I think the other 7 bottles of DL are gonna be sitting around unopened for a long time. Will probably pull out a '14 when I want a sip of the Lord.

    Honestly, not a bad idea.

I've reached out to Three Floyds with my potential solution and sincerely hope they take me up on it if they continue with this year's format:

I've proposed a "locker-type" arrangement where we'd be located on festival grounds providing a glorified coat-check operation that would allow for a safe and secure place to store one's goods for the day. Everything would be categorized and held under lock and key. In order to keep everything in order, your ticket number would be tagged on your belongings and required to pick them up later in the day. A premium service would be provided that would transport the remaining items to major cities around IN and IL the next day; stopping at key POPs (points of pick-ups).

    Thoughts?

Man, how can Dark Lord taste sweeter than usual, do your teeth dissolve on contact?

Money making opportunity. Somebody should just bring a big van and start doing a coat check type thing for people, charge them $5 to store it, give them a number to pick it up when they leave. Zip tie the numbers on the bags.

No offense but not a chance in hell. They already have enough problems with lines and keeping things organized. I couldn't imagine the cluster fuck that would occur with just the logistical side of it. People losing ticket numbers, extra staff, on and on.

Don't get me wrong, I like your idea I just don't see it happening.

At this point, any solution is a good solution. The link @Jplachy provides is the easiest alternative. Provide rentable lockers (i.e., a bus station, area at an amusement park, etc.). I'd gladly rent a locker for a couple extra bucks. Clearly 7,000 lockers is not feasible, but I'd think most people would not take advantage of the option and at least those of us that want a clear head and worry free day once our bottles are obtained could take advantage...

I wonder if the stealing was up because you knew if you grabbed someones bag you were mostly likely getting a variant. In years past you would really have to look around to find who had variants.

Half the people would lose their ticket.

That was my assumption. We all know variants are better than liquid gold (liquid gold isn't barrel-aged), so it makes sense that people can't keep their hands off. Assholes.

If a normal coat check ticket, yes. I'm talking their actual ticket number from their Dark Lord Day ticket. I would find it hard to believe that many people lose them, even after they've picked up their allotment.

someone in our bottle share before the event started poured an '09 dark lord and I remember it being one of the best pours of the day....aged nicely!

Nobody is subject to a "forced purchase" of a BA DL. If you do not want four bottles of regular DL and one bottle of a DL variant, then do not buy tickets to DLD. I am mystified at this whole "Man, this arrangement is such a ripoff, but I just spent $400 on a pair of tickets, anyway" thing.

Also, in terms of selling the variants, it would be a lot better if people who didn't want to keep them traded them instead of selling them. The creation of the black market to sell these beers is what also incentivizes people to go around stealing them.

Someone in our group got offered $250 for his mallow the second he walked out of the brewery and he took it, as would I

There is a difference between trying to get stupid money and getting offered stupid money though.

so selling a French vanilla militia for $400 creates the incentive to steal them, but trading a French vanilla militia for a bunch of rare limited release beers that coincidentally would also probably sell for $400 would create only rainbows and unicorns?
