Are we joking with these forecasts? Munster is close enough to Chicago where we don't look at forecasts unless its 8 hours prior to whatever day it is you are looking for.

ok first time DLD attendee .. question

I am staying at my brother's house in Chicago. He lives on the North end (gold Coast). Does Uber drive from northern Chicago to FFF?
Just trying to get an idea if this is a possibility..thanks and can not wait for DLD

I just did a fare estimate from the Loop (where I work) to Munster, so it looks like they do, yes (low-end was $35-47).

    https://www.uber.com/fare-estimate/

Although I wouldn't consider the Gold Coast to be "Northern Chicago." :stuck_out_tongue: (sorry, just being an asshole)

Question is, will Uber have surge pricing for Dark Lord day?

I'm starting to think Uber has surge pricing all the time, and it's just the norm now.

@Burntfoot I would recommend paying for a shuttle service. There are shuttles going from Jak's Tap and Beer Temple, among others (I think Capone's has one as well). The cost is usually $25-30. I think the good thing about those (although I could be wrong, as I'm also a first timer) is that you'll get to meet some people already on the way out there and start sharing with them.

Uber will drive from wherever they pick you up to wherever you tell them to drop you off. It's one of the things that kinda sucks about the service from a driver perspective. Once you accept the fare, you're not supposed to back out. And often, you don't know where they're heading until they get in the car.

A buddy drove for them for a bit and had to take a guy from Champaign-Urbana to O'Hare. Fare was like $150 or something, so it's not like it wasn't worth his while, but that's a 4 hour trip he wasn't expecting to take.

@SeanBond I was guessing but I have no idea lol

It will be four of us sharing a unber so it wouldn't be that bad

I imagine the Uber there from Chicago, especially split amongst a few people, would be pretty economical and convenient. I'd expect to have to pay surge pricing on the way back as the drunken masses begin their exodus. Maybe take a short Uber from the grounds to one of the casinos or someplace just outside of the surge zone, otherwise a 2x or 3x fare would probably make the cost of the shuttle make more sense, albeit not as convenient. And then hail another Uber back to the city.

It depends on what time you arrive. We parked in the north lot at the park last year. Got there around 9:30AM and there were plenty of spots. The lot does fill up. But then around 3 or 4 spots become available again. Finally, i think they (City of Munster) charged like $5 or $10 to park in these lots. I thought it was worth it. you're as close as you can get to the north entrance of the festival and there is a pavilion with bathrooms and grills next to the parking lot.

I took Uber from Chicago to NWI after FOBAB last year. I think it ended up only being $50 or so and we tipped the girl extra because she made the drive plus had extra water in the car for us. It was much better then trying to wait for the train in the freezing arse weather that night.

Thanks. We're planning on getting in early. Can you leave the car overnight?

Depends on where you park. Three Floyds has no parking for the event, it's all the neighbors in the business park that charge for parking, so it's likely different for each, and you wont know until you get there. Last year I asked the person charging for the lot when I paid and they were fine with me leaving my car there overnight.

You get approximately 160-170 750ml bottles per barrel. Beer lost to evaporation and soaked into the wood, adjuncts take up space, loss from transferring from barrel to bite tank to bottling equipment to bottle.

Also, of the 23 variants in history, only 2 have been 1 barrel worth, 2015 cherry nibbs (160 bottles), 2011 muerte (165 bottles)

Figured there would be some evaporation, didnt really consider the adjuncts taking so much. Seems about right. Assuming they put the barrels and aged em in the distillery they probably didn't do over 80 barrels for sake of space.

There are usually a few different variants on tap as well. Last year everything but cherry was on draft.

Also, fortified wine barrels (cognac, port, brandy, etc) are typically larger.

    New speculation time.

Everyone gets a tote this year and we will end up getting 5 bottles. I assume the tote will be able to hold 6. Dark lord day also appears to be a 20th anniversary celebration. For previous anniversaries of significant age, three floyds has released celebratory bottles.

Therefore everyone get ready to fill that 6 hole with some XX stout
