It seems entirely unreasonable, in that it is an entire case of beer, but I know you just meant that that limit should be enough.

I assume (but don't know for sure) it's always been illegal to drink beer outside of the festival if open container laws in Munster are like they are most places in this neck of the woods, and that the cops have just been cool about all the bottle sharing that goes on rather than give people citations.

If the graveyard of empty bottles in the grass along the line route last year was any indication, they dont really care

I got in last year... I dunno, 30-45 minutes after gates opened. No one ever looked at the size of my bag. It seemed like it was really no big deal last year. I have a 5.11 Tactical Rush 12 backpack that's about 18x11x9.

IMO if you have a 'regular' sized normal school sized / day pack backpack, there won't be an issue.

If you show up with some mongo huge thing, yea they're gonna say something to you.

I brought that exact bag last year (same size requirements as this year), and will be bringing it again this year. They had me squeeze the base of it in a milk crate really quick (which it easily fit), open the top so they could look in quickly, and then I was on my merry way! I wouldn't worry about it!

Yeah, I think that legally you're only allowed what FFF listed, but in practice I don't think they'll be too picky. As others have mentioned, though, this should all be moot, since you probably shouldn't be carrying close to a case of beer at any given time, for your sake, and that of others.

I think the attitude was pretty much look the other way unless someone caused trouble. Which was also the attitude toward the technically illegal (at the time) bottle shares inside the grounds, too.

    Dark lord day FAQ
    ARE BACKPACKS PERMITTED?

Backpacks are permitted at Dark Lord Day provided that they do not have wheels. If it’s a bag with wheels, leave it at home. Please note, all bags will be searched prior to entering the festival.

For the last time. There is no need to buy specialty backpack coolers for DLD. I've used my laptop backpack for 4 years running now, and its sitting here smirking at me, asking me if that's all I've got.

And I've tested it. Trust me.

But, before I continue, let's talk about bifurcation - it's where you separate one thing from another. So, if you're bringing in a huge amount of bottles to trade, its best to consummate that trade outside the gates. And, probably, better consummated the day before, or after. There is no reason to physically trade bottles inside the gates.

So, then, it you're really just desirous of bringing in some bottles inside DLD to share, and share is the operative word, then a backpack is all you need. Just freeze up a few bottles of water to act as chillers between your share bottles. Add tube socks or hand towels around the precious cargo to ensure their safe delivery to my belly, as that's all I'm really concerned with, and at the end of the day, you're good.

In any event, I know, I'm a frikkin genius! What a novel idea!

Only concern is that the heat of the brewery burning down will quicken the thawing of the beer in your backpack, and thereby diminish the optimal drinking temp of the beer you're bringing in to share with me.

Or, that the spring thaw will not reach Munster IN in time, and it will be colder outside the backpack than it is inside, but that's the risk we all take.

In the event that it wasn't obvious - this was tongue in cheek, and sarcasm intended. Except, I really mean it about the backpack.

And me wanting to try great brews, but that's a given.

1 month to go. And yes, I believe this forecast will hold. If it's not crappy weather, it won't feel like a proper DLD.

Which was my point. The police have always looked the other way at DLD and just worried about people getting out of hand, rather than violating open container laws, and cheers to them for doing so.

Random aside, did anyone get the barrel aged coffee beans last year? How were they? Dark Matter just released a batch aged in the barrels for BA Jones Dog and I was wondering how theor barrel aged beans turn out.

They were pretty solid, from what I remember (but I'm not a huge coffee guy). Lots of chocolate, if I recall correctly. I'll definitely grab a bag this year (they're usually available online for a little while after DLD, as well).

I did the whole merch/coffee/glassware thing the last 2 years, I felt like I missed out on a lot of stuff. This year I'm dedicating myself to taps, bottle shares, and music.

I got the Dark Blood coffee. I thought it was pretty tasty. Same with their Warm November Rain.

Anyone aware of any shuttles from the western burbs? Only one in the suburbs I see is Open Bottle, but that's pretty far south.

Could someone bump the link to the IP trade spreadsheet? I have no idea what page it's on.
