Please don't even think about this as an option. Uber or taxi if you have to

 

Anyone ever leave their car/sleep in their car overnight in centennial park or other areas around the brewery?

Sleeping in your car is probably a bad idea. They'll slap you with a DUI even if you're not in the front.

 

How can you get a DUI if there are no keys in the ignition?

 

If your in car with keys that's pretty much all it takes.

 

I've heard people put their keys on the tire, or hide them nearby to avoid that.

 

I don't think any of that really matters. It's going to come down to what the officer decides to do. I've heard of people getting booked walking to a vehicle with keys. Something you can beat in court? Probably. Something you're gonna wanna deal with on April 30th? Doubt it.

I honestly wouldn't risk it.

 

Definitely don't sleep in your car.

Be an adult. If you're gonna drop $200+ to go to an all day beer drinking event, find a way to get to the event and back safely in the same day.

I mean seriously.

 

I've always been told that if the keys are not inside the car then you can't get a DUI. That said, I value a good night sleep in a bed plus not even having to deal with the police enough to where I'd pay $75-$100 for cab instead of sleeping inside the car, especially after a night of heavy beer drinking. Cab it to dirt cheap hotel nearby or cab it back to the city or burbs or whereever you're from.

 

YES you can still get a DUI if you're sleeping in your car, even if the keys aren't in the ignition. You can still get one even if you put the keys under a rock 100 feet away. All the cop has to say is you COULD have driven at any point. The case may not stick in court(it will vary by state of course), but you'd still have to drop $3-5,000 on a lawyer and deal with the Sec of State. It's not worth running the risk..if you're dropping $300+ on beer, drop another $100 on a hotel or taxi.

Why don't you shuttle from a hotel back and forth and sleep in your car in the hotel parking lot? Probably better if your windows are tinted.
