That beer is in sixtels so that's 132 5oz pours. Or $1,320 in sales per sixtel. Figure after everything they make $600 off those sales I don't think this gets them to the "millions of dollars" they supposedly make on DLD.

Personally I think DLD primarily banks off the commissions made via the secondary variant sales just outside of the bottle pickup area.

Those guys are the true essential workers.

I think something about Dark Lord Day that’s also very important: they’ve managed to keep themselves relevant and front in center in the craft beer community. Even now when people aren’t seeking out bottles of regular dark lord, they flock to the fest for the bottle shares, environment, Dark Lord Variants, food, and so on. That festival exemplifies for many the craft beer culture that attracted them to the hobby in the first place, and 3 Floyd’s is a big benefactor of this for hosting. I know that’s what it did for me in 2010, and not a ton has changed with it other than it getting logistically better every year.

Being the progenitors of the true bottle release festival, and then making it bigger and better each year, while still somehow finding a way to make it legal to host a massive bottle share, the Floydszszzss deserve every bit of kudos they get for Dark Lord Day.

I know they started using Running Waters Group in 2013 and continued to use them for a few years but I thought they no longer had a 3rd party running it in recent years? I recall some sort of tweet or something. It's all a bit foggy just like the clusterf#$k that was 2012.

Wow. I just saw a preview of the captcha they are using... get ready to be frustrated- you have to select all the racists from a crowd of BLM and Trump protestors facing off....

that's the rub, no 2020 regular or variants. everything is vintage. which i can only assume means that they will be barrel aging all of the dark lord from this. next year will be all 4 bottles DL variants. $500 tickets

Variants are listed on the website. All from 2018 and 2019. 2020 variants will be released later this year, likely in this same manner.

I would tend to believe that this means the DLD will be a "drive by" event this year. I don't have last year's attendance, but I have trouble believing that they could move that much DL via "drive-by" sales. Would they do a reduce amount? A post somewhere on BA quoted a source that said "Dark Lord was not ready". Did they decide to make more/different variants back in March when they closed? Perhaps there will be multiple variant bags.

It's all speculation, but at least I did not mention that 3 Floyds burnt down today after variant sales ended.

That just means they put off brewing it until they figured out if/when they could hold the event or figure out how to sell it. They responded to a few people saying they haven't brewed it yet or that it is still "in the works" etc..

If true, it would surprise me that it has not been brewed. I would think it would be a somewhat arduous process, not to mention what is sitting in barrels. So perhaps they will go with a smaller batch this year.
