I appear to be in the minority, but I love regular Dark Lord. In fact, I think it's still my favorite non-BA beer. I love that so many people come back from DL day looking to unload their bottles cheap.

Nobody actually drinks beer on this website. We all just buy bottles to try and trade for more rare bottles than we can then trade for even rarer bottles.

If you're drinking what you buy then you're doing it wrong.

I don't mind regular Darklord at all, its a solid non BA stout. But given that I drink a stout a week if I'm lucky (both because of ABV and general health) I really wouldnt ever need 4 of them. One would be nice and I think everyone would be fine with that, but I would imagine most people walk away from DLD thinking they would prefer to save the ~50$ on the extra bottles.

If this is what they do end up doing, I would try again for the $200 with two mystery variants.

I personally thought this was a fun gamble at $200. Didn’t end up with the greatest two variants (‘19 FVM and ‘16 T&P), but can’t win them all. I also kind of figured getting more than one 5 pack would probably end up with similar variants. Person that was in front of me had six five packs in their SUV, and by the looks of the conversation they were having, I’m guessing they were all the same variants.

Logistically speaking, they probably put two pallets of variants in front of someone who was filling the cardboard holders, and was like fill them until you run out. Then they would bring two more pallets once empty. This is why we saw many of the same bags at the same time. I can’t imagine the amount of man hours it would have taken to really make sure each bag was random.

For 2020 if they do do it this way, I would suggest either not allow people to buy more than one five pack, be up front about it, or allow people to come back at a later time

It was random. If they only release one kind a day and you don't know what it is before hand- random. If all the bags are similar in a given period because that was the next box to open- random. Had you selected a different day or come at a different time and wound up with a different variant that's random.

Yeah that’s what I meant by let people come back at a different time. Probably didn’t say it well enough. Taking Sunday morning for example, by most accounts, every five pack bag on the table had ‘19 FVM and ‘16 T&P. So for the 2020 release, if someone buys more than one, give them the option to come back either later that day or a different day to switch out one of their bags.

FWIW I was Sunday morning pickup and didn't get either of those (18 Lounge and 19 Rrari)

I think they just need to mix up the bags better.

That’s a nice pull there. I was mostly referring to the people on FB complaining about it. I’m guessing they wouldn’t have been complaining if they got double your bag or double handjees.

    That would certainly help.

This. Expecting them to mix up the variants for the people buying multiples is expecting too much from 3F. Although I'm not sure 3F owe anything to anyone buying more than one allocation. We all knew what we were getting into....

I guess I was lucky in avoiding the GTM on Sunday. I arrived around 1130am and received FVM and Legio in both of my 5 packs. It was pouring rain, thunder, lightning, just like a DLD should be but I give the staff credit for being out there in the weather.

This point kind of falls apart when everyone else witnessed them looking in bags to make sure they got different bottles. It’s also being way too technical with the use of random. Everyone knows the spirit of the release was “if you buy a bag you could end up with all of these whenever you pick up” not “if you buy 3 bags, you might get fucked one day because we packed all the worst beer into one truck and your SOL, but also, I’d you get 3 handjee, we will take 2 out and give you Shittier bottles”.

like I said before, If I got one bag and got a GTM I’d be sad but wouldn’t be calling bullshit. But i got 3, and the entire fucking table was full of them too.

Did you know what variants you were getting when you signed up? No, then it was random.

I just don't understand how you think there was nefarious action. If all they had was GTM on the table is it plausible they were pulling your bottles trying to find something other than GTM, but had no luck so just put GTM's back in. Just seems like the simplest answer is the best in this case with the evidence presented.

that is not how randomization works.

yeah absolutely, but the alternative to nefarious actions is simply apathetic actions. They cared enough to make sure people didn’t get 3 handjee bottles, but didn’t care enough to not give me the literal worst haul out of thousands of people.

either way it isn’t “that’s just how things are” kind of thing. This is went in the spirit of the event no matter how big of assholes they are there.

Also for the guy behind me, they went into the truck to grab new bags because all they could find was GTM on the table.. they didn’t afford me the same luxury.

What variants did they give him?

No way to know but I do know that the vintage waxes were different in his bag while every single bag in the table was two green, two silver.

Truthfully one of those might have been meant for me and they fucked up.

lol exactly truly random would mean I have constantly changing odds of getting a given bottle. If 50% was handjee then the first person has a 50% chance. In my case. I had a zero % chance to get anything but GTM because that’s the only beer out there.

They obviously can’t make it TRULY random, but you’d think they wouldn’t pack 100 bags in a row with the exact same bottles and set them all together
