Had one last night and really agree, thought it was very good. I know it's not hip to like regular Darklord but I always love them when I pour them.

I'm honestly blown away by not only how consistent it is, but how wonderful the mouthfeel is relative to today's overly cloying, viscous and sticky pastry stouts. It's hilarious to me how Dark Lord continues to have that TOO SWEET reputation because of how groundbreaking it was at the time, but is no where near the excess today's most coveted pastry stouts are, and is amazingly balanced by comparison.

ASB is pretty solid IMO. Easily one of the top 3 variants this year.

Seriously though, the cognac and Sauternes barrels give it that great raisin-y flavor you typically get from a dessert wine BA DL, but without the crazy sweetness. Couldn’t really pick up the rum barrel though.

If this were most years with a ton of variants, it would probably be in the upper half.

Simple question from a simple man

What exactly goes into Dark Lord for 2021 as far as adjunks are concerned?
I understand its Mexican Vanilla and Indian Sugar along with coffee
    Is that correct?

That is correct. However, until you mentioned Indian sugar, I didn’t realize that they were using that these days. It used to be molasses. Anyone know when the recipe changed (maybe when Todd joined)? Any recent references that I can find online definitely use Indian sugar. But I do see some pre-2010 references that say molasses. So I’ve apparently ignored this for a long time.

Indian Sugar is similar to molasses but not in the best way..its like Piloncillo( sugar BOMB) this shit doesn't make me Happy as i was under impression that it was only made with coffee till i looked it up

My man, I gotta be honest, I really think you're in the wrong hobby.

Beer is fermented sugar water. There's no two ways around it.

I could have sworn that at one point, they said it used Belgian candi sugar, but I can't find any mention of that online, so I'm probably crazy.

The ABV changed from 13% to 15% in 2010. So I imagine it underwent a recipe change around then.

I feel like the Indian Sugar wasn't used as a descriptor until 2013 or so, but I can't recall exactly.

The original recipe also included honey.

Seems like this is the only FFF thread people use so I figured I'd ask here: Anyone have thoughts on this year's BA Blot? Really nice to see more of a variety of their beers (especially BA and sours) in retail stores...

Not here, but am curious to hear from people who have. I really hope we see another release of those Bourbon Barrel Barleywines (or I guess they called them “pale stouts” Blurple Gatti/Yellow Rrhari). They were every bit as good as those coming out of Revolution with a lower price tag.

For some reason they deleted the FFF closing thread which was the de facto FFF thread so yeah until 2021 this is it.

Anyway, BA Blot was that old school hoppy af piney bitter resinous stout, with barrel actually coming in, but secondary. My review expands on this but, yeah, it's old school as hell, but not as bad as I'd heard past versions being.

Not as bad as Daytona Stinger, which I just had tonight, and couldn't finish. WTF was that? I rinsed the bottle out and literal neon green glowing shit came out. The beer wasn't green at all. Like, straight toothpaste flavor, did they actually use toothpaste to flavor it? LMFAO! Mojito usually isn't straight spearmint in my experience, but more wild or peppermint.

For some reason there was never a 2021 General FFF thread. No one ever started it. So general stuff kept getting shoe horned into either the closing thread or this one. We definitely need one for 2022.

Probably because people start a DLD thread almost as soon as humanly possible each year, it attracts the biggest shit-posters most active BAs, and chaos ensues.

Shit-posters migrated to the Bourbon County thread. Myself included!

You really have to ask yourself if you are a shit poster or a post shitter. Order matters. Hyphens help, but I think that’s something else. Just do like I do and go with Post ShitTING. It clears it all up. So to speak.

Edit: Sorry, post shitting is @flat_lander ’s thing. Mine is shitting on a post.

Honestly, I think fff is producing way too many sours. Most of them are of a high ABV variety and are average at best. Molten Mirrors is probably the only one I would buy again. … On the other hand, I am here for more BA beers.

All the damn posters who keep listing them as 3F rather than FFF created this problem! 3 Floyds doesn't even know who they are anymore!

Specifically speaking, serving fff Secret Savages to a friend should be classified as a war crime.
