First Dark Lord Day. Had a great time.

The weather sure did suck but it didn't take away from the fun at all. We got in line around 6:30 a.m. Met lots of great people in the lines and got to try dozens of beers I'd never had before, plus got a few pours of some old favourites. Both myself and the friend I went with won barrel aged variants. Sold my Vanilla DL for $200. Pallbearer was fantastic live too.

Had enough fun that I'll be going back next year even if I don't get a bottle Group Sales ticket. General Admission would be fine by me.

Cheers, and thanks to everyone that shared all those fantastic beers.

    I had
    Firestone Walker Bretta Rose
    Firestone Walker Sloambic
    Pizza Port Raceway
    Pizza Port Eukaryst Sinister Stout
Pizza Port Hunter Saison with Kiwi
    Founders Blushing Monk
    Penrose Wild X
    Boneyards Armored Fist

Pretty sure it was the Chevalier Bertrand du Guesclin and not the plain Chevalier at the FFF tent. Or they had both, but the one I had was definitely blueberry.

Oh jesus lord reading that made me remember the worst part of DLD. You missed the handicap bathrooms next to the guest taps. It was about 9, had to go, and that happened to be the closest porta-john. I walk in and, well, I've never seen a porta-john over flowing. The most disgusting thing I've ever seen. The first thing I thought of is that someone in a wheel chair had to use this and there was no possible way that was going to happen. Most of the porta-john banks had trucks near them that kept them clean all day, but they missed those.

I don't think you're thinking this through all the way. Group A moves fast because there's no back log. Group B is running into people that got into the group A line late. Which makes group B take longer. People who get into the group B line late make group C even later. You see how this works. The amount of people who aren't buying during their time slot is minimal. The one year I didn't have group A, I got in line near the end so I wasn't in line for 2 hours. By the time I got to the front, the next group was coming in. So no, making everyone buy in the time slot they have a ticket for won't do anything about the line.

5th DLD for me, first time in group A. I entered the line around 12:20, and there were maybe 10 people behind me when they let group B in, so not sure how the back up is being blamed on group A. Seems like it just happened organically.

That's right! Great group and thanks for sharing the beers, specifically the Hunahpu. First time either of us had tried it and it was magnificent. I think the group was able to stay together once we got through the lines because of the Iowa Hawkeyes poncho! I'll let my wife know about the bark, thanks.

Looks like I touched a nerve with someone. Pretty big stretch to compare someone with pancreas cancer to someone who broke $80 worth of beer. You should absolutely not feel sorry for me IF I got pancreas cancer from drinking. I know what the risk factors are of drinking and I'm not gonna live my life scared of what could happen if I do certain things. Nice try chief.

This is was my first DLD and it was a great time. I'm already looking forward to next year. My buddy, who drove from South Dakota, and I had a great time even when waiting in some of the long lines. It was fun just sharing beer and trying some that we've never had (or heard of) and talking with folks during that time. Lots and lots of friendly, generous folks. I only saw one idiot who tried to start a fight with a group of 4 people but I'm not sure how that ended.

The rain was fine. We were completely ready for it so I didn't mind the mud or the rain. Plus, I got a "YES" on my scratch off and picked up the Coffee variant.

One funny thing was how my buddy and I were laughing in the days leading up to DLD about all the people that will be wasting their time and money standing in line for glasses and regular coffee beans....

aaaaaannnd then we ate it all up and bought basically everything that was being sold. Now I'm thrilled I bought my glasses, coffee, etc.. :grinning:

For what it's worth, those 2 porta-potties were overflowing from like 5 or 6pm on, someone had even taken a dump in a corner in the left one. I was pretty impressed.

@Dontcounttoday - Thanks for sharing the tap listing. I know there were some concerns that the taps weren't as good as previous years but the list itself is quite overwhelming. Apparently I need to be a little more vigilant about monitoring the taps and spend less time in the coffee line...

I don't think the issue is that they were worse than previous years, I think the issue is that the majority of the big stuff blew early in the day, so towards the middle-end of the day the same stuff was on tap the entire time (and no one was really drinking it). With that being said, a lack of options "forced" me to drink Black Flame and the Big Freedia beer, both of which were great, and both of which surprised me greatly.

I would imagine someone on here/ebay/etc has to have an extra; they had a lot of them (I was able to pick one up after Big Freedia's concert, at 9pm or so).

Thanks to @Ken134 and his buddy Rob for hooking me up with the GA entrance. Thanks even more to your freinds who backed out. I had a blast even though I missed out many of the guest taps. I hitched a ride with two friends who had group fix and also their first. We arrived about 12:00 and they were gonna drop me off so I could meet up with Ken at 12:30, but luckily as we drove down the last stretch and saw everyone turining around, by time we got to that point a spot opened up and we were able to park 200' from the North entrance. I grabbed my shit and made the trek around the outside to the South gate, where there was no line. Drank a bit and entered with ease. Split a couple bottles between us, grabbed a Big Feedia and made my way to the North where my driving partners were still in line almost an hour later. Reg Dark Lord was gone by then. Kept looking and having a Bba Dark lord placed in my hand was surreal, drinking half and dropping it, not so good. Could have went and got another, but I wasn't expecting how sweet it is. I kept checking the guest taps, but as the day wore on, less and less people were hitting the taps so the kegs just werent blowing like I expexted. I owed the weather for my ticket, so I embraced it. I was wet but not too cold to have a good time, when the wind picked up though.. Looking at the compiled tap list is shocking how much I missed, but no regrets as a first timer who found out he was going the day before, pacing himself to be coherent for Corrosion of Conformity at 8:45. Missing them near home earlier in the week and finding they were playing the fest is what put me into full bore ticket searching.
@Ken134 also sorry bout missing you guys after your bottle line? Not sure what happened in those 30 mins at the truck after I texted you and saw your response. Thanks again! I'll look for you next year, better prepared. Stayed till the end!
