How did you secure a place to camp next door the night before?

Ok. I would love to understand how FFFs event permit doesn't allow them to sell carry out beer at a bottle sale event.

There has to be something missing from the article whether it's that they wanted to sell outside of the DL lines or what. But this really doesn't make sense because they are indeed selling bottles for carry out.

Anybody ever stay at the hotels on the north side of Hammond, know it's not the nicest area or nicest hotels, but they are sort of secluded right off the highway, cheap, and in between 18th and fff.

Can we add this to the "least metal beer labels" thread?

They sell bottles to go at the brewery regularly, as normal, but not on DLD. They have updated their FAQ as well to say no additional bottle sales at the event. There is no question to that fact, just the why.

    Either:

    1. Indiana Excise Police don't want them selling packaged beer to go at permitted event. Given that the whole event is centered around selling Dark Lord they made an exception for Dark Lord (which is a known limited amount based on allotment and ticket sales).

    2. Three Floyds needs to sell from their own property, the building they used last year is torn down and the brewery expansion construction is underway there. Given they don't have that space to sell they would need to setup either tents outside or sell packaged beer in the Dark Lord line. They don't want to slow down the Dark Lord line with other packaged beer, or have GA ticket holders clog that line trying to buy Zombie Dust. They may simply just not have space to setup a tent somewhere to sell packaged beer on their property and so decided to just not sell other packaged beer.

    3. Some combination of those factors and a reasonable compromise could not be found.

#2 - That's my theory as well. They need to sell the packaged beer from inside due to laws, permits etc.

If you remember in 2013, they sold the non-dl package beer immediately after the DL sales, still in the brewery, which created a pretty big clusterf-ck. This would also screw over GA people, creating even more butthurt. Prior to 2012, the entire festival was on brewery property so I'm guessing a it was a different permit than the festival permit they have now. With that old building torn down, and the brewery being used for DL sales, I'm guessing that logistically there is no way for this to work within the current permit constraints. This of course is all speculation, but it I haven't seen anyone else offer up a logical explanation.

I really hope this isn't just some amazing trolling.

But reverse image search makes me think otherwise.

The only other semi-logical explanation I can come up with for no package sales is some effort to keep control over the amount of alcohol people are crushing through. Drinking through cases of ZD or something. Basically, no buying package goods (to-go beer) and consuming it "on site". Assuming the festival grounds qualify as an extension of FFF property for the day or something.

I'm still just assuming that FFF's lawyers worked out some deal to write the bottle shares into the permit at the expense of package sales.

Much easier to crush through the stuff on draft, than warm cases. I would assume most of the packaged cases go back home with people unopened.

Killing the bottle share would have done serious damage. Killing packaged sales just gives people another thing to bitch about but isnt doing any real damage. It would be nice for them to come out and say we had to choose between packaged sales and your bottle share, Im sure you'll agree we made the right decision.

I'd go as far as saying that killing the bottle share would kill the event as it exists now. Plenty of people would drop out, and sales all around would probably suffer.

My guess is that FFF's attitude is, "out of towners that want ZD can buy it Friday and Sunday, and most will probably be here at least one of those two days. Everyone from IL/IN who wants cases can buy them anytime, so let's try to control the madness at least a little on the day of the event."

Also, does this mean more employees available to work food/drink booths? Because that might be another plus for this year's event.

They staff up with temp help anyway. I don't know that it really makes that big a difference.

Couldn't agree more. I feel like possibly the state police said "hey it got a little out of control, can we cut down on the bottles being brought in or additional bottles being sold?" and 3 floyds had to do something. They take a lot of crap but in my mind pressure to limit the chaos came and 3 floyds still prevailed with keeping outside botles being brought in. Its easy to jump to conclusions and blame 3floyds but honestly why would they say "hey sorry we don't want even more of your money today". Enjoy the crazy guest taps, stuff u missed from 3floyds throughout the year, and the bottles being brought that people are generous enough to share!
Also Big Freedia in the house which my wife and I will definitely be checking out haha.

I asked 3 Floyds on Twitter, got the following response from the designer responsible for it:

"Oh...it's real. Shipping to print tomorrow. Should be available in Chicago, but at the very least, the brewpub"
