Good question. I've never been to an event where they tapped them, but I don't have a very varied history of beer fests. And it looks like they recently tapped reg. Dark Lord at the Great Taste.

I wonder if at this point they've decided that the variants on tap are an integral part of DLD, and thus don't want them tapped anywhere else.

I'd be curious to know if anyone else has seen them recently.

They also tapped bourbon vanilla dark lord at the great taste this year.

I had non-vanilla Bourbon Barrel DL a number of years ago at the great taste as well. Man that was a long line...

Firestone Walker Invitational in May usually gets a BA Dark Lord keg. Last year was the only year they offered a different BA beer from Floyds. I think it was Blot out the Sun. First year they got BVDL and the year after just regular BA Dark Lord.

I believe in 2012 or 2013 there was a barrel of BVDL that got sent to Huna Day.

Brandy (or bourbon, cant remember 100%) Vanilla was tapped at Map Room in 2012 for their 20th Anniversary party
Bourbon Vanilla was tapped last year at Great Taste
Bourbon Vanilla was tapped at Huna Day 2013 (they said '11 vintage but that would have been Brandy)

I know the new Mikkeller place that opened in the past few months in Iceland had a keg of vanilla DL out for its opening, as well.

Yeah, they've sent BA Dark Lord to a number of events in the past.

I just feel like they've been phoning it in at festivals for a while. FoBAB had the terrible infected BA Moloko, Stoutfest had Backmasking, Day of the Living Ales had a very off-tasting Cimmerian Sabertooth, J. Wakefield launch got Man Splits, Hunahpu's got Big Tiddy. There have been a bunch of local 'tap takeovers' were Skull'ole was the feature beer, and no, they were not cherry vinegar showdowns.

Any idea how to obtain said tickets, assuming they exist?

Pretty sure it was just vanilla dark lord at the great taste last year

I made that speculation in the Great Taste thread (I think I was given regular dark lord by mistake which was also on tap around the same time - I picked up no barrel character in my pour). FFF confirmed on here that it was indeed BVDL and that they have never made just "Vanilla Dark Lord".

Spoke with them at the event. It was definitely BAVDL. As far as I know, there has never been a non-BA Dark Lord variant.

They sent Vanilla Dark Lord to Copenhagen Beer Celebration, which is essentially the Mikkeller Beer Fest.

And as mentioned, BA variants used to go show up at Huna day

I would bet they send SR-71. Talked to the owner last year about sending Kind Sue to both Huna and Dark Lord. He said that was by design. Release a new beer, and get as many different people to try it by sending it to a few different beer festivals. Gets him more ratings, generating even publicity for his brewery.

I'd like to add to this if I may. I was at the Courtyard in Hammond last year and they ran shuttles to the fest for $10. It's another option. Catching a cab back even without a number in your pocket is no issue at all. They're swarming the fest. In any case, you're covered.

I would! Driving from Oregon because delicious beer is part of my life. It is all about the experience! Plus getting to see new breweries, sample some rare beers, and meet cool people who love to do to do the same. I would travel anywhere for beer. As long as it is something worthy!

First time poster (though long-time lurker and beer traveler). Wife and I just switched hotel from Chicago to Hampton Inn Schereville in hopes of a bottle share being organized there or at a hotel within walking distance... Sharing with new folks has been a fun part of our past DLD activity. Will bring fun stuff TBD.
