Darklord Day 2017

Honestly, I'd rather people weren't aware of "whales" so that I could actually get a pour or two. I have the opposite problem; wherever I go, people are getting pours and then furiously chugging them while in line again so that they can maximize total oz. of whale consumed.

 

It wasn't that situation itself. It was what caused that situation. It wasn't that no one wanted the pours, it was that no one knew what it was and they weren't super rare, unheard of beers. The fact that it used to be a fest of a good portion of hard core beer geeks was what made it the most fun for me. Did I get less pours of awesome beer? Yes, but I had much better conversations with random strangers. That was honestly the highlight of the day for me most years. I enjoyed the sharing of whales and probably wouldn't have gone back if it didn't happen. It was the sharing of beers over conversation that made it worth going back for me. The above example meant a lot to me because it meant the conversation aspect wasn't there. I realize it's still a good time for a lot of people, but it's not what it once was.

I'm hoping to actually make it through the queue to buy the ticket online this year and not have to scavenge online or hope a buddy can hook me up.

 

2 view points:
1) If I walk around with a Pliny, I almost get tackled and asked for a pour.
2) I had a SARA beer, and the majority had no clue who Sante Adarius / SARA was...

Don't care if people know the beer I have to share or not. I take stuff I like, so at worst case my crew and I drink it. I have fun and know that I feel good with what I have to share.

We did get stuck with an Upland sour last year near the end of the event... we couldn't give away pours for anything. LOL. I think my buddy went into a tent and set it on a table.

 

It's been said a hundred times on here, but I'll take all your SARA beers and dispose of them properly at DLD. I'll even take the Upland since my tub has a tendency to clog, and Drano just isn't that effective.

 

The acid should break the clogged drain up nicely...Good call.

 

Sadly, being Mother's Day weekend and work obligations will make it the first time since 2013 that I will not be attending.

 

I heard they were moving Mother's Day this year to accommodate DLD...the weekend will now have Dark Lord Day and Mother In Law Day, which I believe to be the same thing....

 

In response to whoever is complaining that not everyone knows all the whalez, same goes for the bands. Not everyone appreciates the fact that 3 Floyds bring out bands like Skeletonwitch and Municipal Waste. I wish I was sober enough to actually remember to go watch the bands last year, the lineup was killer and I missed all but a few MW songs.

 

Good point, that portion of the fest is entirely lost on me, since I don't really listen to metal.

 

I dont understand what Mothers Day has to do with it. Its sunday guys...DLD is always a saturday.

 

Plus, when you spend 6 or more hours standing in lines, it's tough to even find time to trudge over to the tents with bands that essentially serve as shelter from the rain for most folks.

 

The five worst days of my life have been the day after the last five DLD I've attended. That's why.

Not sure if serious? No, it's not on Mother's Day. Mother's Day is the 14th, DLD is the 13th.

Yeah, look at the front of this thread where FFF announces 2017 DLD date on the 13.....which is a Saturday...
