Amon Amarth (which I assume will play last) is likely one of the few bands that will be able to cut through my alcohol induced haze at that point in the day. This should be fun.

Just a note of thanks to the two guys who helped me out with food. LInes were horrific and I saw a guy eating tacos on my way to the bathroom. I commented that they looked good and he said "here, have the last one" and gave it to me.

Later I saw a guy eating the chorizo sandwhich and said I was going to go get one. He had a couple trays stacked up, looked at the line and said "here, take one of mine.". I never made it through the food lines, but a couple really cool dudes bailed me out.

If you're a BA and you see this...thanks. I don't know if I'll be there this year (mother's day weekend....it's already a sketchy proposition with the wife without adding the insult of missing MD's too), but if I go, I'll have a pour of something really nice for you.

Oh man, I was thinking about skipping this year but I've been dying to see Amon Amarth! Looks like I'm taking a vacation weekend.

Also of note, Mastodon is playing a show in Chicago the same night as DLD so I could see them making some kind of appearance.

That makes very little sense. Unless maybe they played....first?

I was thinking more like signing bottles of Crack the Skye. If they played it'd be under an alias and earlier in the day, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Newb question--never gone, hoping to this year. Do tickets allow you to bring a guest?

Yes. 1 guest max if you are able to get thorough the feeding frenzy and buy tickets.

@eifster82 is correct, but just to be clear, you have to buy two tickets if you get through. No unticketed guests are allowed in.

Do we know when tickets are supposed to go on sale? I thought it was early March last year

Ok, so really getting through just gets you the right to buy two tickets (with two DL allotments, one per ticket), and no guests with an individual ticket (i.e. there's no way to get in without essentially buying a ticket that includes your allotment, assuming the allotment is included within the ticket as it appears to have been last year)?

If they use the same format as last year, correct.

Most every year it has been on or near St. Patrick's Day. Although, since this is the first year they have changed the date of the festival, it makes you wonder if the date of the ticket sales could change too. In previous years, the first update from 3Floyds was made sometime in February with regards to tickets sales, dates, and what that process entails.

Mind you, you and your guest need to enter together. You can't just give your guest their ticket and meet up later.

Best change they could make at DLD:
    1) Abolish the groups for pick-up and make it first come, first serve
    2) Make bottle pick-up contingent upon leaving the fest- when you leave, they give you your bottles, cut up your ticket and wrist band. You don't come back in.
This would provide everyone a great dilemma- do you go for the sought after variants and immediately leave the fest after entering so you can get Vanilla or do you stay to enjoy yourself, spend your vouchers and then get a not so sought after variant when you are ready to go? It would reduce theft as well since people wouldn't need to watch their bottles while in the fest.

I'm not sure that contributes to a better experience for the attendees or generates additional revenue for 3Floyds and all the other vendors there (Dark Matter coffee, food and merch places).

Your first proposal would create such a clusterfuck of a line that I wouldn't even bother attending (not to mention the axiety which I'm not sure a brewery wants to increase for the attendee). It would make the line 6+ hrs long easily, and your second would incentivse people to leave when what FFF is trying to do is keep everyone there longer to spend more money.

I like groups. It keeps the lines down as much as possible, and if anything I'd like to make this a 2 day fest with even more taps and more variants.

Oh god. FCFS lineup would be miserable.

The "Best thing they could do" would be to hand me 4 bottles of Dark Lord and a random variant when I leave the fest for the day. "Thanks for coming and partying, here's your door prize"

Don't even make me line up. Just give it to me on my way out.
