Yeah I think 2014 was the last year I saw that. I believe that was the last year for to go sales as well.

I'll be getting there at 11:45ish and am expecting them to have the entrance extravaganza figured out. I'll be in by 12:30?

Who knows? It's a brand new set-up with only having one line and having a staging area.

The ticket used to come with a free pour of Dark Lord, but that hasn't been the case since 2010.

I don't recall ever getting a free pour of Dark Lord in the bottle sales line ever. I do recall there being a draft tent setup some years in the bottle sales line.

Maybe they will be smart and just double the number of people checking bags at the new south line and it will take the same amount of time to get in?

I have found, especially over the past year with our current Idiot-in-Chief, that people applying the most extreme, baseless accusations to large swathes of people are often most guilty of those accusations.

FFF most definitely will be to blame for them creating a shitshow by creating a new ridiculous form of queuing, if indeed they do this like we suspect they are going to.

Most people go to the fest these days for the guarantee of the variant. Your inability to comprehend that is astounding. The bottle share is an awesome consolation, but I think the attendance level for a $180 event would drop dramatically if it was just for regular DL at this point. It doesn't matter, whatsoever, if there will still be a bottle share.

There are plenty of other festivals out there breaking the DLD mold and drawing massive crowds that have never allowed bottle shares, ever. This aspect is not the draw of DLD today. Neither is the draft list. Neither is the regular DL allotment. And neither is the excellent northern Indiana weather.

For myself, and I think it's safe to speak for most other attendees, the answer would be a resounding yes to that question.

What is with this persistent, futile effort to condescendingly argue in an attempt to convince people to not line up early for their pre-paid variant? Seems to me there would be only one motive behind that.

What, praytell, do you recommend one do all day in lieu of waiting for their pre-paid variant? If everyone is already in their chutes waiting for their pre-paid variant in the first place, you're going to be one lonely SOB complaining by yourself at the picnic tables about where everyone is, and why everyone is waiting for their once a year, nearly impossible to obtain variant.

Let's try this. What do you think is the most fun aspect of the fest? What are you actually recommending people to do? Because seriously, I don't think I've heard you actually make one concrete remark in that regard--just a never-ending loop of denial regarding what everyone else here already knows is going to happen.

Every year we have gone, we show up way early, and share in line. After we actually get in the fest it is all taps all day, and we love it. One of the guys I always go with actually enjoys the music too. The way things are this year if we just immediately got in our allotment line, we would miss out on some of the biggest reasons we are there. We also are not there for the variant. Sure it is great we get one, but we were always there when you weren't guaranteed one. Believe it or not we actually really like regular Dark Lord! Sure we would all prefer to get Handjee, but we aren't going to wreck the entire reason we go to do so. So we will walk up to our C Group line 30 minutes prior just like the website says and get what we get. If I get vintages, then so be it.

All taps all day, in the past, as I've heard it, would have been great. Last year, did you really enjoy the taps? I mean, I didn't, I found them insulting at the very mininum, but...your experience may have varied. I really don't see the taps improving, either. My guess is a steady decline in unique drafts year to year.

It sounds to me you've been going to the fest for a good while, and also, you're relatively local. This is what I expect the fest would turn into without variants. A good time, sure, but no longer a national or international draw.

I don't deny regular Dark Lord is world class, but I wouldn't go through the hassle of the fest and pay that much money (plus hotel and travel) just to get it, just like I don't do so for Darkness. If it wasn't for the variants, DL would be distributed to shelves, at least locally, like Darkness is.

Simply put, most people will not abide by the recommendation to only line up 30 minutes prior.

Not speaking for @Sabtos but I believe he did say "most people" go for the variant. I tend to side with him on this. Most people do care about the variants and what variant they will be able to get. Look back to last year's thread and earlier in this thread. There are pages of people talking about what the variants will be, what variants were good and bad, what variants people hope to see, when the variant list will be released...
Even the talk about who got what group and what that meant in regards to what variants might be available to them. The variants are a yuge part of DLD and a lot of people do go to DLD for the variant AS MUCH as everything else. I just don't think a lot of people realize this themselves. Now that being said, maybe yourself and others really don't care about the variants. That's fine. No argument here. I look at the DLD experience as a whole. Everything matters to me to a certain and nearly equal degree (except for the bands...I like them but they won't determine whether or not I go to DLD). I'm paying for a variant (or 2 vintage DL now) so I kind of care what I get. I don't see anything wrong with that.

If I actually had to pay anything more significant than the cost of ticket and travel more than 30-40 minutes to get to Munster, I would never go to this event honestly. I just enjoy socializing with other humans. Respect for people who actually fly in for this. That is real dedication.

Is there any way to get notifications on what is being tapped throughout the fest? I don't really want to just hang out by the taps to find out

I think people need to calm down a bit. My thoughts:

    1. We all bought tickets with the clear warning that no-one is guaranteed a variant. The language was added to the website and ticket sales site saying it will be a variant or 2 vintage bottles. Yet we all still bought tickets. I have seen people say they would not have bought tickets if a variant wasn't guaranteed, well guess what. It wasn't.

    2. There was no guarantee they would even make Handjee or FVM this year. What if they left variant distribution as is. But didn't brew Handjee this year? Again, Hanjee was not announced or guaranteed when you bought tickets, but now people act as if it was a guaranteed part of their ticket.

    3. The site says "Everything Subject to Change" and every year things do change. Stop making assumptions, and then getting mad at FFF when they inevitably change something.

    4. Tons of people have had Group A in the past, and walked away with ZERO variants because they lost the scratch off. I am sick of hearing "I finally got Group A after all these years, blah blah" because Group A was no guarantee until last year. Exactly one single year was Group A a "guarantee" to get a Handjee. Only Once.

If hanging out and waiting isn't your thing, you are going to be miserable. By the time you hear about what is tapped, it is too late.

All this talk of lines and variants and if that's why people go made me think. Yes I want a high end variant and yes I am going to try and get one. If I don't I'll be a little upset but I won't regret going. Talking with my friend the day of ticket sales I asked if we should still go if all we could get were E tickets (this when we assumed E tickets meant getting vintages). His response as well as mine was a resounding yes! So the way I look at it is we go for the variant but it's not the end of the world if we get stuck with vintages and I will not regret it in the least bit if we do.

This. Back in 2014 I "finally" got group A. Then I walked out of the allotment line with 4 Dark Lords and a golden ticket that said "No"

I get it. Everyone want the beat variant, but at the end of the day it is just beer.

    Different strokes for different folks.

this MOST people shit is getting outta control. speak for yourselves people. Not at all there for the variant here, nice bonus would still go regardless if they went back to scratch off and only a small portion getting a variant.
