Fair enough. I don't want to be a dick, maybe I'm just hoping I could get some people to see the big picture. Also, I'm right along with you-- I'm more interested in sharing beer with people and having a good time than acquiring a Hanjee. I'm really just hoping I get a pour off the line because I don't really care about having one in my possession if it means I have to worry about it all day. Also, I'm bringing my girlfriend, and she's a great sport with this insane habit of mine, but if I care more about a bottle of beer than having a good time with her she's going to kill me. That being said, part of the reason she's excited to go with me is because I'm not going to lose sight of the party and I have a good track record with her at these things. Didn't mean to sound like a dick in my prior post.

 

I was looking at The Weather Channel (.com). Definitely the right day and city. I guess it just goes to show that we really won't know until we get there.

Besides, if anybody wants to talk about a real miserable weather beer festival, try going to the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Fest. It's outside in the middle of winter with a giant bonfire in the middle of the fest and tiny little tents for the draft tables. Otherwise you are totally exposed to the elements. Great time but its like a 50% chance of a blizzard every year.

 

That actually sounds kind of awesome. Well, maybe for the first hour or two. Or maybe miserable until you get drunk?

This, 100%. I literally do not care at all if being "mysterious" is part of their shtick or "the DLD experience" - if they are using a professional event manager (which they are), it is inexcusable to not have details like this ironed out in advance. I'm not asking them to reveal the damned recipe for Dark Lord, I'm asking them to be clear about what's being purchased and how it will work. That does not seem at all unreasonable to me.

Also, I'm wondering if the prior debate is overlooking the nostalgia factor for DLD. Yes, there are bigger and newer fests (and sadly nearly all are better organized), but it does have the reputation of being one of the first, and the only one with the sanctioned "best bottle share in the world." I don't know if that aspect in and of itself is what draws people, but it certainly is an undeniable piece of that puzzle. IMO the historical nature of it is, however, an even bigger piece.

 

I never assume someone is being a dick. I'll never call anyone out or make a sh*tty remark to someone if I don't like what they posted (unless it's @croush, he's a poopy head). I also understand that I can only express my opinion and maybe someone will get it.
I'm bringing my significant other as well. She's been a real trooper and even though she only likes a few beers out there she wants to have fun and try new offerings/pours at DLD.

 

It's actually pretty damn fun regardless. You just gotta dress warm. They have a kinda unofficial bottle share in the line on the way in. Can't bring bottles in but by the time you are inside you aren't concerned about the cold. Last time I went was a few years ago. Perrin brewery converted a tour bus into a little tasting bar on wheels. Complete with heat and scantily clad women pouring their beer. Wanna bet who had the biggest line all day, atleast until Founders broke out the CBS...

Well the bad news seems to be the anticipated bottle pickup lines from Hell.

But the Good news is that will mean a shorter line to get the Dragon Abortion t-shirts autographed by thier promoter/head janitor, who we all know will be in attendance even though the band will not be playing DLD. So we got that going.

 

Can we hurry up and get this fest over with. I need a DL....

 

Thank you for your support. I tried getting a DA booth set up at DLD and they threw me out of the brewery's front door ass first.

 

I'd take weather over variant no question.

 

I waiting for FFF to drop some more bombs when they announce how pick up will work!

It is gonna be a long week and a half.

 

I'm just curious on how the no lines thing will be enforced, but the group A starts at the same time as the fest.


Unless that prestaging area will be the line. I guess we'll find out.
