Darkness and BA Darkness (2015)

    With it being Darkness Eve I figured it would be nice to have some info here for those trying to trade for Darkness.

    • 1,500 wristbands availabe at 1pp. 1 wristband
    Allotment:
    • 6 Regular Darkness (Red Label/Wax)
    • 1 BA Darkness (Gold Label/Wax)
    It looks like BA Darkness will hit limited distro in the next month to all areas that currently get Surly.

    Be safe out there, and make some memories.

    So there are only 1,500 bottles of BA Darkness? For some reason, I thought that all bottles of Darkness were now barrel aged.

    Well BA Darkness will hit distro..so there are more than 1,500.. and no, not all of it is BA thus year. Just last year due to space limitation when transferring to the new brewery.

    They couldn't brew a big batch of Darkness so they brewed smaller ones throughout the year and threw it in barrels for storage.

    Thanks for the clarification. Being in Pittsburgh, I'm not too knowledgeable with Surly's products, so this is definitely helpful information. I'm guessing it will probably be a little harder to trade for this year.

    BA Version, probably. Regular version is same allotment and price as last year so shouldn't be an issue.

    I can't edit above, but regular Darkness bottles have black wax this year.

    BA is gold wax with actual label. Not painted on.

    also, fwiw, non-BA was $20 a bottle and BA was $25. at the brewery that is.

    Also, this years' BA Darkness was used in first use barrels. Last years was second use barrels.

    I'm so confused, wasn't last years Darkness all barrel-aged?

    @HawkeyePA covered this above. Last year was due to them not having enough room before the new brewery opened so they made it and put it in barrels to finish. Also, last year was second use barrels, this years is in first use barrels.

    They said this years Darkness would return to being a non BA stout, which for the most part it did, they are just doing a bit of it in barrels as well. Guessing we will see this moving forward, the majority for Darkness will be non BA, with a smaller amount being put in barrels.

    Traded a 2015 Zuhkov + Forest & Main bottle for 2015 Darkness + surly extras.

    BA Darkness was in barrels a whopping 3 months.

    Anyone who's traded for a BA Darkness, what have you given up? I've even tried throwing some Casey out there and got crickets.

    Last years bottles were only BA so it was abundant. BA Darkness this year is hitting retail in December, no knows the counts yet, but it may be easier to get at that time.

    I wasn't as big of a fan of lasts years Darkness in bottles, it was also in second use barrels. But it is what it was, tuey needed to put it barrels to be able to release it, so I was just happy we got it last year.

    This. The uncertainty around how much BA Darkness will hit distro and the 1 bottle limit at the brewery on Darkness Day make folks hesitant to part with it. For now...
