There were TONS of biffs towards the brewery farther, but it seemed like people weren't willing to walk down there...

It was run pretty well and I loved that I could go up and get Darkness on tap anytime I wanted without waiting in line. Also didn't feel as cold as I thought it would be out there, but I'm sure all that booze helped.

I want to congratulate Surly Brewing on another terrific Darkness Day!! Your staff were all fantastic as usual and the way all adjoining businesses support you is a testament to that. Letting us (the Surly Nation) use their real-estate for one of the biggest beer Woodstock's on Earth deserves a huge shout out and also just shows what great people you and your family and staff are!

I had a blast meeting so many BA members, new friends and old, and having a beer bash for the ages! Now, time to share my Darkness around Decorah!

    Cheers!

....sorry if it was me working you over! I tend to get a little friendly when I am tasting the best beers in the world from new friends while simultaneously drinking my entire cache of WET! Any ways, I got so friendly I spent more on Pizza's than all 6 of my bottles of Darkness!

My first Darkness Day and I must say I had an amazing time. Everything went very smooth save for the **** Monsters and the dumpster. Todd actually posted a pretty funny meme on Facebook about this. Didn't camp out Friday. Showed up around 1:00 PM Saturday and was able to park behind on of the beige buildings just feet away from the brewery. Enjoyed a bevy of delicious beers but Brett Liquor and Damien stood out for me. Got my 4 bottles of The Sweet and Dark goodness. A cool little bag and an awesome Darkness goblet. Not a super big Death Metal fan but We Are Legion and Wolvhammer were good but Powermad owned the evening. I felt like I was 15 again. All in all a great night. Very surprised that I never once had to wait in line for a beer or a piss. Just an over all great event. Can't wait til next year.......CHEERS to Surly Nation and all the BA community.

Had a great time at my first Darkness Day this year. We were seated next to some very kind and generous people and sampled some great beers from all over. Several from the top 100 as well others including even Bourbon County Rare. I felt like everyone there was having a great time and there just to celebrate great craft beer. There were a few minor issues that others noted like people cutting in line, but there always going to be the inevitable d-bags at events of this size. Thanks to all and can't wait for next year!

Noob question: how hard is it to obtain a bottle of Darkness once they hit stores?

Not too bad. Initially there is a rush but afterwards it's not difficult to get at least six bottles if you want.

..which were also overflowing by the morning. And those were placed near the front of the line, so accessible to the first few hundred folks, but not in eyesight of the unwashed masses (those who didn't arrive until nightfall, including myself).

Was that your cooler that got dumped by biglobo's truck? That was entertaining, though tragic. Hope the broken bottle wasn't too precious.

Sadly yes...was my cooler. The only beer that broke was for an IP trade. That sucked and I felt bad.

Whoa! Talk about typical Chicago A-holes. Their drunken decision to arson the dumpster will certainly impact the future of DD day.

Good to hear all outstanding fellas from other areas sharing great beers, forging new friendships and enjoying the DD experience.

"Typical Chicago A-Holes"?? I'm pretty sure A-Holes are non-regional.

So how come no one has revealed the identity of the dumpster lighters yet? Someone has to know.

Indeed, A-holes are everywhere, Chicago just happens to have the highest percentage of them.
