Can someone explain how Darkness Day works? I went to Dark Lord Day this year after getting lucky and scoring a pair of tickets as they went on sale. Is the ticket process similar at Darkness Day or does it work some other way? I'm really hoping to being able to make it up this year and enjoy the festivities. Thanks in advance.

Assuming it is the same as years past, you show up in line as early as possible (starting at 3:30pm on Friday) until the gates open at 11am (I believe). They hand out wristbands starting sometime around 9am or so, and the first 1200 or so get them. A wristband entitles you to buy up to 6 Darkness bottles at $18 each.

Who knows what will change for this year though?

If you don't wanna sit in line a day early you can still get 4 bottles on Saturday.

That hasn't always been the case. Last year was anomaly compared to previous years. I'm not saying it won't happen that way again this year, but don't count on it.

I hope the hipster fascination is over. Last year was awesome in terms of no lines and minimal waiting.

First off, every year it is run better than the previous year. Having the group times last year was a great improvement and kept there from being a giant never ending line.
I think people got scared when they heard how long the line was at 6pm. The build up also scared a lot of people away.

Planning to join my favorite trade partner this year and brave the cold.
Just how cold does it get?
Coming from CA, what should I bring that fits in a suit case to be well prepared?
Here's to bottleshares from 4pm Friday to 2am Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:
May need to ship bottles in to leave room for clothes and shit.....

On average, around mid-30s. Feels pretty cold waiting for the sun to pop above the horizon.

I hope they don't do that stupid compress-the-line thing on Saturday morning. It really killed the early-morning bottle shares, though that got started back up nicely by mid-morning. I plan to arrive early on Friday this year to participate more fully in the evening events.

To those who haven't been before: the in-line hanging out and bottle sharing is really the main event; buying bottles and drinking Surly inside is secondary (at least for me and many others).

How big are yah? (I know, not polite to ask another gentleman)

I'm sure if you join the BA bottleshare I can bring you a winter coat to save on packing space. That's what my buddy did last year and it worked out great.

and to help, I have let out of towners ship me beer and I bring with me to Darkness Day for them. That way you don't have to check and have TSA going through your stuff. Besides, my truck will probably be a half ass decent place to hang out at anyway.
