Yeah, that is basically it. The original law was for brewpubs only, which were limited to 3500 Bbls. There was also a cap of a max of half your barrelage or 500 bbls, whichever was less. The licensing fee for a small brewery was changed from a 2000 Bbl cap to a 3500 Bbl cap, and growlers for breweries followed said cap.

There was nothing magical about the numbers. And btw, the only reason the original growler law passed was because of the help of the MLBA. I had already had it shoved down my throat 2 years prior to the passing.

The MLBA? As opposed to 99.999% of the rest of Minnesotans who don't own a liquor store/distribution and feel like buying a perishable product straight from a local producer is not something that needs to be banned?

I wonder when is Colorado going to get with the program and stop letting New Belgium, Odell, Oskar Blues, etc. run amok with their growler sales? It's for the good of the people, after all.

I am always horrible at keeping up when events are, I always seem to find out about event like this like the day before they happen and by that time they are sold out or I have other plans.. But this year I will FINALLY be making it to Darkness Days!

Question, do we need to pre-order/buy bottles?

Nope. Line up starts at 6 or 7 am and they hand out wristbands on a first come first served basis. The further up in line you are, you get earlier access to buy darkness.

Alot of people camp the Friday before, some even Thursday, so its kind of a guessing game as far as what time to get there Saturday. In 2012, my GF and I got there around 3:30am Saturday, and were a good 1000 people back, if not more.

Do you think any of this will change now that it is widely distributed?

Do we know if they plan to increase Chicago's allotment this year? Because they had enough Darkness to ship out state last year.

This is not accurate. Several hundred people get in an informal line the day before (Surly has asked that people not arrive until 3 p.m. so that surrounding businesses aren't hassled as they conclude their work weeks, but a lot of people choose to ignore that and line up earlier). As far as the actual "get in an organized line and get your wristbands", the past 2 years it's been at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Thinking about doing DD for the first time. The Twin Cities area is one hell of a beer town

They may have the capacity to brew 240K bbls a year, but I don't think Summit is currently producing anywhere near that number.

The line that starts the day before is the most fun. The beer is secondary for many of us
