Based on @MNAle 's post here when he reached out to the brewery previously, all we know is your beer was packaged on the 12th day of the year. Which year? Who the heck knows. But we do know the code of the pressure tank, however. Hopefully, it's 2022!
Thanks Jaycase! That's disappointing. So when I poured it my palate was already a bit wrecked so I will have to report back after sampling a few with a clean palate. It did seem a bit skunked to me though.
Definitely not from last year. Pretty good maibock with a good mix of hop and malt. Just a touch of skunk, but not enough to ruin the beer. A bit of ethanol, noble hop peppery spice and grass, a pretty strong sweet malty finish, and a medium-light earthy bitterness. Edit: not flat at all.
We're usually trying to figure out bottle/can codes, not kegs, so you may be at a dead end here. However, how does it taste? Always a good barometer.
From an unscientific scan of a couple helpful reviews where folks added these details (here and here), it seems to be 'LDDDY?' format so thinking your beer was packaged on the 250th day of 2021 (07 Sep 2021). ETA: Assuming keg & bottle coding is similar which seems reasonable to me anyway given the similar formatting here.
So what's the last numeral (4)? LDDDY4? Very difficult translation. What's worse is that Franzi 12-packs don't mirror Spaten 12-packs with their dating. Spaten is very straightforward.
Yeah, it's all a bit of a mess really. Just came across this old post from 2008 from some board (link) where someone had the same date question on a 50L barrel. That date was L07184 which would seem to hold with the DDDY code given that the post was in November of 2008. What the '4' means? No idea. Maybe it identifies where the keg was filled.
Looks like the convo was on page 1-2 @MNAle... Giving this thread a bump because of the upcoming Kölsch tasting, may be relevant to some on here that are interested in trying some of the imports.
Have found newly canned Hacker-Pschorr beer locally and they're also dated with the same BB & packaged-on format.
RE: Ayinger's date code the following thread, post #6, says the code is a Bottled-on code, not a best-by date. It is in regards to a code of L8118. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/ayinger-oktoberfest-bottle-date-code.584371/ AlcahueteJ said: ↑ The plot thickens...but in a good way! Originally I e-mailed Ayinger, and they FINALLY got back to me, with good news. "thank you for your inquiry and your interest in our Ayinger Beer. The number means that the beer was bottled on the 118th day of 2018, it is a lot number. Best Regards" This means we can read Ayinger dates now! This was bottled April 28th, which jives with the distributor's bottling date of "late April". Although I think she screwed up, the code on the bottle was L8116. So I assume that would be the 116th day of April? @AlcahueteJ any further info since this post?
Anybody know for sure how einbecker dates there cans? I got L2300 I’m hoping 300th day of 2022 but I guess it could be the 230th day of 2020.

The cans and bottles are not coded the same as far as I know. I don’t think this has changed but it’s been a while.
