I remember a thread several years back about putting brewed on dates in the review, albeit in the review itself and not entered in, but that was before a large number of brewers were dating their product. As a result of the lack of dating, the discussion was limited to say the least. Now things are a bit different. With most everyone dating, maybe a new box in the review could be of use? My initial thought centers around three drop down boxes for dates to be entered (sorta like the old method of delivery - bottle, draught, cask, etc.,.) so one could actually sort by date, but WAIT - here's more work for IT to contemplate: perhaps a search that would sort the reviews by freshness of review. For example, a beer brewed today (as indicated through drop down boxes) and reviewed today (as indicated by time stamp on review) would have a value of "0" and be closest to the top (or bottom depending on ascending v. descending), whereas a beer reviewed two weeks after brewed would have a value of "14" and fall in line accordingly. This would serve at least two purposes. For one, you could look at what drops off across whatever range of reviews you'd like; two, you could perhaps re-review a previously enjoyed beverage based on a different date that more closely defines the beer than a more out of date beer. Of course the date entry would be elective (reviews w/out date simply default assigned "999" as date and go below dated reviews when sorted) and one could still simply rate instead of review. This date rating would be beneficial for IPA freshness and cellared beer reviews.

Just my thought on it. Anyone else care to chime?

I've thought about and wanted this too.

Although—I've also seen quite a few reviews say 'no freshness date' when I know that there is a packaging date (at least as of the date the review is posted). So maybe it's harder than just prompting people.

I'm not opposed to this idea but I'm certainly not overly interested in it either... I would want to see this field be completely optional since it does not apply in a lot of cases (especially if you are reviewing beers when you are out at a restaurant or bar).

Also, the proposal assumes that the date the review is entered on BA is the date that the beer is consumed, which I know to frequently be not the case... Especially when I am traveling, I tend to enter the reviews on BA after I return from a trip as I do not always bring my computer with me.

I very much agree on the date entry being completely optional. This is why I theorized that any non-dated review receive a default "days" factor and begin their listing under the reviews with actual date stamps.

I also enter review dates sometimes well after the actual consumption date. Not sure how I missed that in my original thought. Perhaps a box that can get checked if drinking date is different from date of review? I know that adds more work though - just thoughts on the subjects.
