hey guys, i have 2 bottles of KBS from a trade but no clue when they are from. I think they are last years offering but have no way of telling, i dont see a date stamp anywhere! Any help? Thanks!
I like KBS a lot but I don't want a relationship. Bottle dates are on the bottle neck. They have a tendency to smear or rub off however.
damnit, yeah i think this is the case on both of these, my FBS and backwoods bastard bottles are dated in the same spots so i figured it would be the same for KBS but nope, nowhere to be found!
sometimes w/ the black ink date stamps they are hard to see/read with the stout in the bottle.....often times when the bottle is empty you'll be able to see the date stamp. other times, they do get rubbed off like mentioned above.
Look for a two digit date at the bottom rim of the bottle. If it is 10, than it's a 2011 KBS bottle. Edit: and like hannydawg said above, you can also usually see an inkjet julian date on the bottom of bottle (would be a long number broken into two sections - first section is julian date of when bottle was made). Founders often uses bottles made in late prior year for early next year releases.
check for the "slanted" abv. if it is slanted then it is 09 I believe. the last 2 years have straight abvs and the 08 has Kentucky Breakfast Stout written and not KBS (I think)
Sometimes it takes like 10 minutes to find the date, in the sunlight haha! I'll swear it is not there after a few mins of searching but eventually find it.
You probably have tried this but, if not, try breathing on different spots all around the base of the bottle neck. Those pesky black digits tend to pop out in the fog.
