First off, yes, I know this is probably Great Lakes thread content since technically this forum doesn't include WI and that Dave is on here often so I hope he doesn't take offense. I'm just curious as to why we don't hear more about DBF? I've visited and always had a great time hanging out drinking the beer. I've never been blown away but it's always solid and well made and the experience is hard to beat. Is Dave making new stuff/styles? Is it same old same old? I guess I just forgot about it entirely and was kind of surprised to not see it mentioned more.
I thought that there was a thread about Daves Brew Farm several years back and it said that they we closing the operation down. Is it still open?
It's simply too far off the beaten path for most Twin Cities residents, & the current lack of bottles means most people (even some folks around here) have probably never even heard of the BrewFarm. We've been going for years & love the place, the people, the beer, & the vibe. That being said, we probably only get out there twice a year. Without a designated driver, that's a long haul back to the Cities, & it's not the kind of place you can drop by on the way home from work.
The following weekend too (17-18 June). His blog is updated with dates as well. http://davesbrewfarm.blogspot.com/
I used to have Matacabras in the refrigerator most of the time five or six years ago when it was being bottled. I understand why Dave stopped having it contract brewed, but I really miss getting it easily. As for the Brewfarm, I've only been there once, but really enjoyed the ambiance. I would have enjoyed it much more if I wasn't the driver.
It was brought up in a different thread, but Sam from Sisyphus tried to buy it last year. The deal fell apart last minute, but they are still hoping it will happen.
Hi BrewFarm Besties! Yes, the BrewFarm is open the next two weekends (6/10-11, 6/17-18 from 3-7 each day) and thanks for the cash-only reminder! The BrewFarm has always been somewhat of an anomaly in the current scene, but as attested above, it's a unique, fun and tasty anomaly! We remain for sale, though we are not actively marketing the sale - and yet I still get inquires almost weekly. We're holding out for a legacy buyer, as we really want what we've created to continue on and flourish. As always, if you have any questions, drop me a note here or direct at dave's brew farm at g mail dot com (no spaces, usual email format...). And for fans of Matacabras, it will be pouring this first weekend for as long as it lasts! Hope to see you here drinking beer! Cheers - FarmerD
Thanks Dave! The wife asked what I wanted to do for my first Father's Day and I suggeted a day trip to visit some out-of-the-way taprooms. DBF may have to be a stop along the way.
I member going to the summer beer dabbler about 5 years ago and didn't leave DBF's taps the entire day! Amazing stuff that got me hooked into craft beer scene! They were selling can's into MN for a short amount of time, but unfortunately that didn't last long.
As a former Twin Cities resident now living in the Pacific Northwest, the BrewFarm is one of the things I miss the most. There are not many better ways to spend a weekend afternoon than hang out and drinking delicious beers there.
