Have a DB cake and was curious about the value of it compared to Bourbon County Rare. Anybody with some advice on if this should go 1:1 or if there's an addition on either side would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I would have to say addition on the cake side. I would do a rare for 2 ba cakes, and I know a guy who did DB and JD for a Rare

I bet you get 1:1. DB Cake is spectacular. Prob trading too high but it is what it is. Both one time releases and DB cake was 30 so no legit gripe there

Just laughed that Illinois and South Carolina differ in opinion.

Hope you get what you're looking for

as a neutral here I can't imagine that you get Rare 1:1. both one time but that Rare is way old at this point

Neither of which I've tried, probably never will, but Rare is well much rarer. Guys who bought it drank it, guys who traded for it drink it. I still see it popping up on beer selling sited, still commands $250 on the open market. I would assume at this point with just the sheer number of bottles still available it will always trade high, many more Cakes floating around too.

Rare is not what it was 4 years ago though. Its simply trading based on its name and its age at this point. DB cake is better than rare as of now. That's why i'd see it go 1:1. 2:1 is absurd. But thats just me.

the reasons hardly matter though. look at dusty lambics that may or may not be crap right now and never scored that high to being with...some of these would take 10 DB Cakes. rarity and demand trump taste

Ratings for Rare seem to be pretty stellar still. I doubt people are giving it 4.5's-5's because its called Rare. This whole it's "falling off" does not apply to every beer all of the time.

In any case if anyone with a Rare thinks that DB Cake is valued more i'd be happy to let go of my Cake for one as long as OP is covered.

    Im guessing I won't get messages

You are correct about that. Rarity is the determining factor and sometimes i do trade based on rarity, but for the most part, personally, i trade on taste. Or at least desirability.

For examble, bcbcs is in my top 3 beers, so i don't trade what i have of it for mostly anything. But that's just me.

i don't think rare is "more rare". there were thousands of them. db cake was brewed on a way smaller scale. brewery only. not distrod like rare was. trade for it if you must but def don't go 2:1. thats tarded

I'd say it's probably 1+:1 with the DB cake adding something like a regular cake to get it done. I also don't think it's worth it, as Rare isn't really that much better than a well aged bottle of BCBS at this point. Haters gonna hate.

4yrs is not old for bcbs, people are raving about the way 09 bombers are drinking right now.
