Sorry if this isn't the correct way to go about this, just hoping to avoid threadshitting by asking here if I'm close. I am looking for either a Rare or DB Huna and was going to offer the following list. Am I close? Closer to one than the other? Thanks for any input, positive or negative. FT: DB Jesus BA Biscotti 1x black note 1x bomb! (Gold wax) 1x Bible belt Could mix match or add with 2x BCBS 4 KBS Again, thanks for any input
I personally think you need a little bit more, but you might be able to land DBA Huna. Considering you're in Iowa, some Toppling Goliath IPAs might help you out. Good luck!
My sense is that most people with DB Hunah and especially with Rare aren't looking for quantity of limited, but relatively easy to get beers. You're hoping to make up with quantity, but you will likely need at least 1 "big" bottle (i.e bigger than your top 2 there). Good luck though!
A couple bottles of Sosus will help your cause a lot. You might even be able to land either one of these with 6+ bottles of Sosus.
I'm not saying you're wrong - because people are irrational - but anyone that wouldn't take DB Jesus + BA Biscotti + Black Note + Bomb + Bible Belt and maybe some KBS but WOULD take 6 x Sosus is a moron. "Oh, no, just keep your $100 of beer and send me $50 of beer instead" ... I'd bet you could get someone to trade you 3 sosus for either BA Biscotti or DB Jesus.
Trading is a weird thing. The biggest thing you have to realize is that some of the beers you can get locally are better than they hyped up beers. Just drink what you can get (cause you obviously can get some good ones) and forget about the huge hyped beers cause half the time you will find they weren't worth it once you get them. Johns has a hell of a good selection. Better than most beer stores in the US and I would say better than any store in MN. You have great stores in Iowa. Rare isn't even worth it anymore. Most people don't cellar their beer well. I just traded my last Rare a month ago. It was a hell of a beer but just realize that the hyped beers just typically aren't worth it unless you have a huge cellar and want to trade huge beers that are 1:1 or want to trade tons of good beer for a beer past it's prime. Don't go with the hype. It's fun to tick a beer but the most valuable beers typically aren't worth it. Look at Fuzzy these days. It's just a beer that MANY beers are better than it and would trade for way less. Hype is the red headed step child of beer. Don't buy into it.
I take no offense at all because I know exactly what you mean, people are irrational. Toppling Goliath is the golden child of the midwest craft beer scene right now, and people are falling over themselves to get the latest bottles of hops from them. It doesn't help that Toppling Goliath is pretty much exclusive to Iowa and Wisconsin (and sort of MN, through Casanova's) right now, in comparison to the Evil Twin distribution footprint. Depends though on whether people want fresh hops or barrel aged stouts.. I definitely recall seeing a half case of Sosus (or was it 3x pseudoSue and 3x Sosus?) go for DDG b2 at one point a few months ago, and I might recall a case going for something ridiculous like Cable Car or BVDL, but I could be wrong on that one. That's why I think half a case would score Rare or DB Huna.
