the BA ratings are the most objective thing we have, so I think that makes sense.

and I have a strong suspicion that the bottle quantity you mention is inversely correlated with reviews - in fact I would bet that people really do taste hype and are more inclined to give high ratings to beers they traded a lot for, to avoid cognitive dissonance. you see this A LOT whenever people do blind tastings of IPA's, or Belgian quads, etc. I've done this a couple times myself with friends and the most hyped beers tend to be overrated when tasted blind.

IOW, I would put these beers in the "close enough" category to each other.

Except rarity is a consideration, just not the sole consideration. Rarity is a consideration for a very simple reason actually, more available the beer the more likely a trader has it. So you aren't going to pull a DB Huna with BCBCS because most people with a DB Huna probably have it. In fact it was distributed down here.

Then people tried the beer and word got out that it's freaking incredible, this drove the value up as well. The biggest factor driving up the value however are the people putting up ridiculous amounts of beer for a single bottle. Some people have that kind of beer to offer and don't care, they just have to have it.

If you guys want to combat the insane trades, quit offering insane trades. I'll never taste DB Huna most likely, and I'm OK with that.

It seems that Black Tues gets into the hands of many more people than Huna does. What, with online sales, in-person events and the societies...

Yeah especially considering how quick people are to trade it. It's great news for me though I love Black Tuesday. Not sure why so many people shit on it.

Despite being in danger of thread jacking my own thread, when is Black Tuesday for sale online?

Not sure where the 20k number is coming for DB Huna. At the most there were 3864 bottles of HUNA. If all 1500 members purchased 2 and picked them up that would be 3000. Then the 72 cases that were realease at huna day 864
Thus 3864. Now I have seen a case or 4 in the "celler" part of the cooler at CCB.

From what I understand Black Tuesday is in perpetual production at the Bruery. (at least that is what a buddy of mine that lives near there says). Maybe I just misread that post. Not sure. But DB Huna is for me the best BA Beer I have ever had.
    CR is a close second.

BT's online sale is in October. Society members get an allocation as part of their membership fee + a chance at more once the general online sale starts.

On topic now - I just traded my DB and regular Huna for a V013 and PNC. The other trader added a solid extra and I included 2 BA limited releases to try and offset the cost. Rarity can be debated all day long, but I thought this was fairly even.

People, people, you're losing sight of the fact that DB Huna is, in fact, amazeballs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Srs though, rarity has to factor in, in the BCBCS example. As I pointed out above, a fraction of the people who could obtain (often easily) BCBCS could obtain (nowhere near easily) DB Huna. Why would anyone trade it for something so much easier to get? If TASTE is more or less equal?

Thus the point that in order to get DB Huna, you're going to need beer that is 1) equally amazing, and 2) equally limited.

so this is an instance where you're saying that trading 25 ounces of amazing beer for 120 ounces (or more) of amazing beer is irrational. it's not like this is 120 ounces of beer that people can just walk down to the liquor store and get, it was sold almost instantly everywhere it went.

which is basically my point - that rarity trumps everything else, by far. how good the beer tastes is a factor which is about 10% as important as rarity.

the fact that BCBS Coffee was distro'd in Florida doesn't really matter, b/c you could replace the bottle of DB Hunaphu with Rare or BA Abraxas or various other single bottles that people have / and they weren't able to get BCBS Coffee. it would still take 10:1 or something crazy

If that was true why can't I get a DB Huna for a growler of Don't tell Reece? There are 100 growlers out there, that's it.
Hell I could start trading my <40 bottle count homebrew Berliners for Bourbon County Rare.

    b/c demand is also important

but taste is far below demand and rarity

    Ah, but what determines demand?

we'll just have to agree to disagree. I got a case of BCBCS with little to no effort. I'm obviously not alone. There were thousands of cases of BCBCS, distro'd to 25+ states. DB Huna was available on 3 separate occasions, 2 of which required you to have won a lottery for the right to buy 2 total bottles. The last was for 80ish people to get lucky during the first 10 minutes of a ticketed single day brewery event.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see that as anywhere near close.

Totally agree here.... I bought a case of BCBCS, 16 BCBBW and 16 BCBS without much trouble at all here in CO... BC stuff was easy to find... and is still available in some markets

Ok but you're still ignoring the main point: rarity trumps everything else. All I've been trying to say is that on a pure rate basis trading 10+ bcbcs for a db huna makes no sense.
It only makes sense if you value rarity.
