So I'm gonna be in town on Friday night/Saturday morning and am looking for some advice since I really just don't have too much time to do research. I plan on hitting up Churchkey and maybe one other place Friday. I'll also be looking to bring some goodies back home with me to Jersey. I'm pretty sure OTWOA is gone for the time being so I'm looking for some advice on a place or two where I can definitely score something decent and somewhere reasonably close to Churchkey for beers Friday night. Thanks for the help guys. It's much appreciated. I normally wouldn't mind strolling around for beers but I'm gonna be kinda pressed for time.

Did they turn the website search function off again?

Try P Street Whole Foods. Unless you're built like your governor, you should find it within walking distance of Churchkey.

Like I said, I was just asking for a little help being that I didn't think I'd have very much time to do research. But thanks anyway bud.

I'm not sure of the area names but I'm around the corner from the White House.

Churchkey is definitely the best beer bar in DC. P Street Whole Foods does have a good selection.

Your hotel also won't be far from Dupont Circle(N-NW of where you'll be) or Gallery Place/Chinatown(due East of your location).

Dupont Circle has Pizza Paradiso which always has interesting stuff, along with the also mentioned Connecticut Avenue Wine and Liquor - DC has good laws where stores/bars can bring in anything as long as they drive it in and pay some fee. Conn Avenue sometimes will have Surly, Russian River and other stuff not easily found int the DC/MD/VA area although what will be there will be random. Also in that area is Bier Barron, which originally was the Brickskeller.

Gallery Place has RFD, which is where the people who owned Brickskeller moved. They have a solid selection, sometimes rare drafts, but it is a loud environment.

Smoke & Barrell in Adam's Morgan has neat stuff, along with The Black Squirrel(the downstairs bar usually is best) but that's a slightly longer trip NW in a cab for you. Jack Rose is also there too.

Don't know how far your venturing...

FWIW, most Churchkey trips I take don't involve more than a beer or so after anywhere else...

I went to the Pizza P in G town for the Three Floyds night back in Late March or Early April. It was great service , great beer beyond the Three F and it was not a shit show. Had a great time. Pizza looked good but we did not eat there There was a WF right near there that had a great selection and also very helpful staff.

Should be a short cab ride for you.

    Enjoy

    Advice about DC?
As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top. And you'll need the cocaine. Tape recorder for special music. Acapulco shirts. Get the hell out of L.A. for at least 48 hours.

Churchkey can have a great selection, but can be crowded and slow service. I am partial to Smoke & Barrel (with the Black Squirrel a few doors away). Churchkey is sort of walkable from the White House (unless you're the governor - that cracked me up!)

If you are going to get in a cab, then don't forget about Meridian Pint. Also Brasserie Becks for Belgians.

All the places mentioned above update their website tap lists daily. That might be the one bit of research you attempt.

Churchkey might have the best beer selection in the city, but it is far from being the best bar. I'd much rather go to most of the places mentioned in here- Meridian Pint, Smoke & Barrel, Black Squirrel, etc.

Meridian Pint is also pretty Metrorail accessible.

I agree, however if I was only in DC for one night ever, might be the place to go..just get there early.

Get to Churchkey early if you are planning to make that your focal point. It'll be very crowded on a Friday night.

I was in Philly the two nights prior and did quite a bit of drinking. Needless to say I was a little burnt out come Friday. On top of that, my car was fucking up as I got into DC so I didn't wanna be driving all over the place to stores. So yeah. I pussed out and went to ChurchKey around 3-4 when I got there and then was all touristy at night. But it was a good little trip nonetheless. Had some great beers along the way. I'll probably make it down to DC again by the end of the year, and hopefully next time I'll have more time to explore and use all the advice here. Thanks again everyone.

Edit: Oh, and FUCK driving in DC. That was not enjoyable. So on second thought, next time when I go I'll have to master some public transport down there before I go wandering too far.
